This is news? Russia and Iraq go way back, much of Iraq's military hardware is Russian the rest is from the French and Germans. The very underground bunkers that the brass live in is German made. During the 1st Gulf War we did not have a weapon that was capable of penetrating them. Now we do.

1 volley of this Scorpion (with Yachonts) and the whole aircraft carrier group (with the convoy) are on the bottom of the sea :)

Russian Oil companies control about 40% of the oil in Iraq. Plus they have a contract to develop the West Qurna oil fields and other major reserves.

Most of the big Russian mulitnationals are controlled by organized crime types or have connections to the underworld. So these are hardcore businessmen that don't want to loose their deals in Iraq.
