History is interesting however soundbites can distort the really interesting and fascinating parts of world history. It would be an understatement to say the world is complex. Not that i blindly support the US - but there are some valid explanations for our policies. (and in hindsight - some of our policies were mistakes - which is unfortunate - but understandable) |
I especially love how the list is littered with things like this:
"1963-1975: American military kills 4 million civilians in Southeast Asia" Lots of details, plenty to back it up. I also love how he uses words like "civilians" and "Southeast Asia" instead of things like "combatants" and "Vietnam". A civilian with a gun and an eye to put bullets in you is fair game. Mind you, we should never have been there in the first place, but let's not pretend the US flew over Asia dropping nuclear weapons on sleeping babies. SpaceAce |
everything on the internet is true.

Compare prices:
http://www.serendipity.li/cia/cia_time.htm Sure it's true. Maybe the facts are amplified to please who ever is using them, but still true. What do you think the CIA stands for? C unt I n A ction |
Here's a few he missed:
1775-1781: The USA overthrew the duly appointed leaders of the Colonies and killed tens of thousands of British soldiers. 1861-1865: The United States kills over 500,000 of its own citizens 1941-1945: The USA kills tens of thousands of German, Italian and Polish citizens. The USA also killes hundreds of thousands of Japanese. It's easy to lay blame if you ignore inconvenient things like facts. SpaceAce |

If you have contradictary source, go ahead and post them. It's a free world.. I mean board. BTW, just a list similar to the original post. WTF you have up your ass? |
Our history is replete with audacious power trips imposed on less powerful countries unfortunately. Don't blame the American people. No matter we have Republicans or Democrats, the CIA and the rest of the Intel Community Kabols, and others in the world, are governments unto themselves. And history has shown and demonstated they answer to no one. Its frightening when you really delve into it all. Better not to even look as you'll realize we have a 2nd govt. in this country.
On the topic, some interesting numbers from the Congressional Budget Office: Cost of the Centcom Media Briefings Television Set: $250,000 Initial Deployment Costs: $14 Billion First Month Military Costs: $10 Billion Subsequent Months Each: $8 Billion Return Home Costs: $9 Billion Monthly Post War Occupation Costs: $4 Billion Iraq's Bank Accounts Seized in the US so far: $1.74 Billion |

Like anyone else, Moore is pushing his own agenda. If you read his articles and watch his movies and accept them without question, you are no different from those who accept what Bush says without question. Don't be a hypocrite, see http://www.moorewatch.com/ for balance in the force.

What contradictary source? If you want one, I can make one up just like he did. If I put a page on the internet and fillit up with words, will you believe them? The evidence suggests: yes. Similar to which original post? As for having things up my ass, I think it's clear who's running around with a chip on his shoulder, here. SpaceAce |

Let's just say: True or False: Iran- Contra affair Chile : Pinochet. If false, I will bow to your immense intellect. |

If you are referring to WWII and the use of nuclear weapons, it takes a supreme ignorance of history to believe that those acts fall under the "bombing sleeping babies" heading. There is basically no credible argument that those bombs cost more lives than they saved. Japan was recruiting farmers to stand on the shorelines and repel Allied troops with pitchforks. The casualties would have easily reached into the millions, not including further loss of American and Allied lives. SpaceAce |

As for "true/false" solution, sorry it isn't a true/false world. Did America kill 500,000 of its own citizens in the late 1800's? Yes. Did those deaths also lead to the downfall of slavery and the reunification of the most economically and militarily powerful nation the world has ever seen? Yes. It's a world of grey areas and "Just tell me yes or no!" is self-serving bullshit. SpaceAce |
