bhutocracy 03-24-2003 01:38 AM

two landed in Turkey as well.

Mark 03-24-2003 01:39 AM

Its on skynews now but also on http://www.haaretz.com

jact 03-24-2003 01:39 AM

Considering how many missiles they've fired, that's a pretty decent failure rate. If it was all 100% then there wouldn't be a point to fighting the war.. Nothing to cover up! :1orglaugh

Dildozer 03-24-2003 01:40 AM

yeah heard that, as if they would randomly hit a bus, that was targeted for a reason

directfiesta 03-24-2003 01:41 AM

What is the range of these fuckers....

I am getting worried .

bhutocracy 03-24-2003 01:43 AM

one of the british presenters on skynews was getting a little pissed at the americans for the friendly fire.

I remember way back when the US did an airstrile against Lybia. Our bombers took off from an airstrip in England, and would have had a direct flight over Europe to Lybia except for the fact that France didn't give the US permission to fly over their airspace. So the US bombers had to *double* the trip distance, flying all the way around spain both ways (the whole round-trip took over 18 hours, if I recall correctly).

We (the US) dropped many laser-guided bombs on Lybia in clear conditions. They all were pretty accurate, except for one bomb. SOMEHOW, that one bomb went about a mile off-course and landed right on top of the French embassy in Lybia.

The US apology went pretty much said this: "We deeply regret that one of our laser-guided bombs struck the French embassy. Our pilots were probably extremely tired after their flight time was doubled due to the new route around France, so accidents will happen." Talk agout a big "F-you"! :1orglaugh

Note to self: If riding a Syrian bus, make sure to get off before it goes into Iraq.

That was in seriously poor taste.

Why? 5 syrians are nothing if compared to US soldiers?

Those syrians were not at war, did not put themself in a war situation and did not pose belliquous acts.

Both are tragedy, but it takes harsch comparaison to open your eyes.

BRISK 03-24-2003 02:09 AM

Those missiles are quality products made in the USA with union labor and genuine GM parts.

DAMASCUS, Syria - A U.S. missile hit a passenger bus carrying Syrian civilians fleeing the war in Iraq, killing five and injuring 10, Syria's official news agency reported Monday.
Quote:

The agency reported that the air-to-surface missile hit the bus Sunday morning in Iraq close to the Syrian border.

Key words:

- passenger
- fleeing the war
- close to Syrian border

They really were looking for it. Much more than any invasion troop.

Sorry, I just reposted the link from the original poster of this thread ( 3rd post I think).

The point was not if it is exact , but that the comment of " not driving in Iraq, or you deserve it " type of answer was idiot.

And to idioty, you can only answer the same.

Late here...

Damn, I can't find a full news story about it :feels-hot
It was the April 15, 1986 airstrike, but all news sources I've found just list it as a 1-line report that we bombed Tripoli then. I wish there was a news souce that archives all pre-net news stories!

As a matter of fact, yes. They are in Iraq which means they are in a warzone which means they are in danger. I accept that, they accept that so why shouldn't some people on a bus who had some really bad luck accept that?

You're not teaching me a lesson, here, you are backing up my argument. There is military action going on in Iraq right now. This is not a surprise to anyone. We told everyone it was coming and we've been broadcasting it on open airwaves 24 hours/day. If you decide to take a sightseeing tour in Iraq right now, you're risking your life. That is simply a fact.

Do I want civilians to die? No. I have nothing against any individual Iraqi or Syrian. Do I feel bad about "innocent" people dying? Yes, I wish it didn't have to be that way. Still, it is war.

I use "innocent" above because, let's face it, on the whole Iraqis and middle-easterners in general don't seem to have any problem with death or destruction coming down on Americans. In fact, many of them seem glad to participate. How bad can I be expected to feel about people dying in a nation that has done nothing but hate me just for bein American?

Good link; thanks. I just found one as well that describes the fact that our bombers had to go around French airspace, and the bombing of the French embassy in Tripoli:

http://www.washington-report.org/bac...9/9910022.html
Skip to the "A Prompt Reaction" section near the bottom. Mind you, the rest of that page is some paranoid anti-Israel junk, but it at least mentions the French embassy situation.

flashfreak 03-24-2003 03:15 AM

that's sooooo obvious: they WANT Syria and Iran invloved in this war... after all they want to sell oil in euros as irak does....
there will be more actions like this, you'll see....

from your own provided link.

Now confirmed: also names.

A U.S. plane fired a missile at a bus carrying 37 Syrians home from Iraq, killing five and wounding at least 10, the official SANA news agency said on Monday.

It said the incident occurred on Sunday morning in Iraq's al-Rutbeh area, some 100 miles from the Syrian border.

"A U.S. warplane fired a missile at 10 a.m. local time yesterday (Sunday) on a civilian bus carrying Syrian nationals in al-Rutbeh...killing five and wounding at least 10," the agency said.

The bodies of the five dead Syrians were taken to a Damascus hospital in coffins with Iraqi death certificates, the hospital director, Dr. Abdullah al-Asali, told Reuters. "The deaths were caused by an explosion...We saw shrapnel wounds and distortions due to an explosion," he said.

A source identified the five as Amjad Abou Azab, Asheq al-Warrad, Abdul-Karim al-Hamdou, Ahmad Elaywi, and Salmou Hamamseh. "They were all young, apparently laborers returning home after the war started," he told Reuters.
