This kind of shit pissed me off. We lose more troops do to faulty vehicles than to combat.

Its a shame and should not happen. This type of thing needs to be investigated cause its happening in iraq as well.

It's hard to say what went wrong. With all the equipment over there, the dusty conditions, and all.... things are bound to fail here and there.. just wish it wasn't in the air.

That's a good read, IMO. There's an online version of Blackhawk Down out there for free somewhere (it's a fully legal version), and it's a *really* scary book that shows the brutal realities of urban combat. I didn't like the movie BTW.

Oh, and the book/movie is about a battle in Somalia; has nothing to do with the recent war... it's just that the title of this thread got me thinking about that book.

americans prolly lose more troops in accidents and fuck-ups than in combat each year... that's fuckin sad since it could perhaps be prevented.

directfiesta 03-23-2003 02:49 PM

Should get Japanese... very reliable.. at least for cars.

We have so far in the war in iraq. I'm sure things may change now that we are getting closer and more combat activity is happening.

Although I wish we didnt lose anyone either way.

Japanese helicopters? Japanese F-18s?? Japanese B-52 bombers?

Juggernaut 03-23-2003 02:57 PM

I'm sure a lot of it is due to "sand storms" and weather, destroying equipment and what-not... but I do also think that the coalition is playing down a lot of other stuff like enemy attacks, sabotage etc

Was it shut down or just crashed on its own?

first you will hear it was a crash but only if other media can prove it was shot down you will get the truth from US officials

Initial reports say it was not due to enemy involvement. Sounds like mechanical failure then.

You don't think if it was engaged by the Iraqi's they wouldn't be reporting it that way? If anything it would raise the ire of some of the 'anti-war' people over here. It would do more in the hearts and souls of Americans than to hear it went down on its own.

Tuga 03-23-2003 03:02 PM

I love that movie. It's real war that sucks.

With hundreds of thousands out there, of course they will have accidents. A car crashed in LA and all 4 died, who cares?

what a sad day for the American military and family :(

i'll tell ya this, this story about the fucking piece of shit Russians selling AND installing and tutoring the Iraqi's how to use equipment that could kill thousands of civilians and American servicemen is not going to go away.

Yes, it is. And when you see this young kid from Texas answering " I came here to fix broke things", it is pathetic. He is scared as hell . I hope he and the other detainees are treated with proper care. Up to now, it does look like it.

Now for your Russia allusions, are you kidding??? Iraq is ( or was) a sovereign country and has the right to defend itself just as any other country. The word is DEFEND . Look at what you sent to Baghdad ...

"As a result of allowing the optimum season to pass there will be a toll in American lives, because of equipment failure, and heat stroke, let alone the additional misery of it all. The heat there is almost unbearable and I do not know if you have experienced the misery of a sand storm."

I posted the above in this thread a while back.

I did. My post was in response to the person saying that it is happening in Iraq also.

PersianKitty 03-23-2003 03:21 PM

I forget that some people don't know the geography over there and are quick to assume any mention of military means Iraq. I should of been more clear in my initial post than to just say Kabul.
