Shooters and Editors: Need help with shitty cam audio
How do you guys deal with crappy audio that has a lot of unrully peaks and annoying background noise?
I mean obviously the long term solution is to capture better audio on set, but I am not creating the footage in this case, just dealing with the aftermath. I have an editor going through and hammering down the peaks one by one, which is too time consuming for the mass production we are trying to get rolling, I wonder if there's some software or plugin, or group of them that can just do it all in one pass, I am thinking maybe compression and EQ. I notice a lot of people just either deal with it or drown in out with shitty music, while on the higher end there's overdubs and voiceovers and stuff, looking for some quick and dirty middle ground that won't force users to mute the video and also won't add days to post production. I am willing to concede no such thing exists, if that is the consensus, just wanted to ask. |
So for now I have found a high-pass filter at around 2k hz takes care of most of the background hum, and the peaks don't seem so bad to just leave in there once the high-pass is in place.
Possibly none of it is an issue at all, for amateur content, just my editor is used to making wedding vidz for nit picky housewives and obviously that's not the same as doing amateur camgirl content. |
