I just had to share...
My father is retired military... he served two tours in Vietnam. He is also very well-versed in military history. After a discussion today by phone he sent me a lengthy statement by Alistair Cooke...you can read at http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles...le.asp?ID=6255
I couldn't help but notice what my father has in his sig these days... It reads.. "Beware lest in your anxiety to avoid war you obtain a master." -- Demosthenes |
Your father has a sig?
Does he carry around a big white sign when he goes to the grocery store? |

No idea what that means. Kind of too heavy for me.

PK and me go back 6 years although she may not realize who I am using this alias. |

PK and I go back almost seven years. I have even talk to her on the phone. I know she has no clue who I am, but she's a big girl and can handle it.

When I said "you roll over too quick", I was referring to your apology at presumably insulting PK. Does it make sense to you now, or would you like me send you a copy of "Sarcasm for Dummies"? |

So, I responded with....."dry humor". Get it? Why are you even responding to my threads in the first place? Oh, that's right, because you misunderstood my words in the beginning. Simplicity? Yeah. |

Sorry for inadvertantly molesting your thread, PK. Yes, the article is very interesting, as well as the site.
My thoughts have been revolving around the whole "giving up freedom for security" thing for quite a while, now. It's kind of creepy. |

I would characterize Saddam as more like Stalin than Hitler, however. Stalin was more interested in preserving his own egolomaniac power-base than anything else, just like Saddam. Hitler was trying to create a "greater" humanity at any cost; his own power-base was a means to a twisted end... just as Pol Pot's was. Regarding the sig... I cannot disagree. But I must add the words of Thomas Jefferson: "Men who would give up freedom for security deserve neither." Both quotes hold true to this day. |
