What do your family & friends think of the fact that you're running an adult website?

I have a full time job at a Japanese factory. I've started to run an adult website for several months. So many things to do so I'm a little bit busy. My annoying sibling keep asking what the ef I was doing with my laptop all day long. I don't think that's the best idea to tell him what's going on...
I always wonder how pornstars tell their relatives what they do for a living. Someone could get hurt ;_;

Anw, I'm a new guy here
so...
..Hello
from the other side

No one in my family knows what I do for a living other than "He builds websites and does internet marketing stuff." -- the less they know, the better. If they ever ask at family gatherings, I just talk about Google algorithms, etc. They get bored quickly and change the subject. Then again, I don't have any younger siblings running around, and I don't do any work when my kids are around. If I do, it's in my office behind a locked door where no one is allowed entry.

Do you still live at home with your parents or something?

I just say Internet Marketing as my scope stretches from Mainstream/Adult. :2 cents:
Few friends know but only family member that knows is my Mom and none of them have a problem with it. That may be due to them seeing the income I'm making generally while I'm sleeping. :2 cents:

They are all cool with it, and have been since the beginning. The last person to find out was my eldery mother who only found out once she saw my picture in the Montreal Gazette, but even she thought it was awesome.

A few years ago my mom found out and she wasn't happy, until I showed her the checks.. :upsidedow

I had a ton of family around me recently and I told them 'Internet marketing and building websites." LOL Sound familiar? I'm sure they could figure out its porn but I don't care....I make as much as all of them put together so whatever. :)

Family's always known about it - totally cool with it. Basically they said, "It's an honest living...who cares what others think."

They've always been progressive and willing to embrace the unconventional.

Over the years, some past military acquaintances suggested that being a porn star was a terrible thing for me to do; I opined that I couldn't help but notice that many of the "complainers" were usually dating no one, or had less than attractive relationships and that they and many of their dates were waaaaaay overweight and had what appeared to be complainer outlooks, while that was not at all the case with the girls I worked with and was well paid for "playing with them in porn". Generally, the aforementioned jerks were quite envious of me being "Dave Cummings" and admitted such. Interesting!

GF didn't like it at first. She said it was "dirty money" and I shouldn't be meddling with it. I said, hey that's where the money to be made is at...and at the end of the day, money is what its all about.

Now that she sees how much I'm making, she's very accepting of it. Though she doesn't like to look at the models.

She doesn't tell anyone exactly what I do. And neither do I. Because there is somewhat of a stigma to it. And I suppose there's certain situations where it could come back and bite you in the ass.

Let's say you have a normal 9-5 job. Of all your coworkers, there's always one in the crowd who loves to talk shit about anyone, to whoever will listen. Running an adult site is the kind of thing someone like that would seize and have a field day with. It would eventually make its way to a supervisor. The supervisor may think "Hmm, if that guy tells a female coworker what he does on the side, who knows how she'll take it?" It would be a lot easier to just get rid of you, than to risk a possible sexual harassment lawsuit.

With that in mind, there's so little to be gained by telling exactly what you do. :2 cents:

They may visit your website a lot LOL

So I see many of us would rather keep quiet about our job unless you have a big paycheck :1orglaugh

Ex wife hated it but didn't mind taking half of it in the divorce in 2015. My kids and family are cool with it. Friends are in awe of it. Never hid it from the get go.

MiamiBoyz 01-25-2016 03:09 AM

I tell them I sell drugs to kids.

j3rkules 01-25-2016 04:12 AM

Better make sure that you have the whois protect on all your domains...

Paul Markham 01-25-2016 04:17 AM

They saw me adapting and progressing from offline porn. So no biggy.

Not to worry...I use the money I make from that to fund an abortion clinic and sell the embryos to a satanic cult...

I hear they eat them before their weekly orgy at a day care center. :thumbsup

They say: Adapt or die!

;)

CaptainHowdy 01-25-2016 06:10 AM

A girlfriend will eventually find it disgusting ...

wehateporn 01-25-2016 06:20 AM

It's definitely not seen as a good thing, but the issue isn't raised

Paul Markham 01-25-2016 03:08 PM

We're off to the UK for a nephew's wedding. It's always fun trying to figure out who knows and who doesn't know what I did. Usually, someone asks why I went to Czech or what I do there.

I'm the black sheep of the family some talk about and others say nothing. My motto is if you don't know which one of the family is the black sheep, odds on it's you.

rogueteens 01-25-2016 03:51 PM

personally, i don't really consider running an adult site to be "really" in porn, to me its just another product to market so thats what i tell people. even so, when i tell people that i'm in internet marketing, most guess themselves that its adult sites and no-one seems to care.

candyflip 01-25-2016 03:54 PM

Mine don't care as I've managed to keep myself employed, my kids fed and clothed, for over 15 years simply "sitting at my computer". :1orglaugh
