Georgia lottery winner murdered during home invasion
 

FITZGERALD, Ga. - A recent winner of the Georgia Lottery was killed during a home invasion overnight on Thursday, reports CBS affiliate WRBL.

20-year-old Craigory Burch, Jr. won more than $400,000 in November 2015. Authorities from Ben Hill County say Burch died from gunshot wounds.

Burch's girlfriend told local TV station WALB that Burch pleaded with three masked men before they shot and killed him.

"When they came in, he said, 'don't do it bro. Don't do it in front of my kids. Please don't do it in front of my kids and old lady. Please don't do that bro. Please don't," Jasmine Hendricks told the station.

Police have not identified suspects in the case.

I would imagine that if you won the lottery.... I would imagine you would be a huge target for local criminals looking for a quick and easy score.

It depends on the decisions you make. A past lottery winner here in my town was murdered because he would take huge amounts of cash into strip clubs. He would brag to the girls that he always kept $50,000 in his car. He was robbed and killed. Yeah, but think about his prize money.

To get the payout listed in most lotteries you have to accept the annuity.
The payout is less if you want a lump sum cash payout plus heavy taxes.
If he took an annuity payout then he would only get about $25k for his first year payout.

It's nice money but not like he can just run out and buy a house in the best area.
