Godaddy Fucks Canadians (i have proof)
It was just brought to my attention that Godaddy has been fucking it's Canadian customers on domain prices.
Before we dive into the canadian screwjob... Godaddy's .org new domain pricing for US customers is $17.99 :1orglaugh:1orglaugh while NameSilo is $9.95 Yup they are charging almost twice the price on new .org domains than NameSilo. That in itself is reason enough for you to not even register your domains with Godaddy. Now back to the Canadian Screwjob, If you sign up for Godaddy's "Discount Domain Club" and want to register a .org domain today, Canadians pay $15.59 CAD Americans pay $7.99 US Now I know the canadian currency sucks but simple mathematics tells me 7.99 US does not convert to 15.59 cad. That's almost 100% more expensive. It comes out to more like 12 bucks. So Godaddy is clearly fucking it's Canadian customers. I called their Customer line and they tried to give some BS blame game and said the .ORG registry tells them that they must charge Canadians a certain price. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh WTF!!!? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh Lamest excuse ever because when Godaddy buys a batch of .org , they negotiate a set price and GODADDY are the ass clowns who decides how much to charge the .org for. Thats why GD sometimes offers .99 cent promos. The prices are up to Godaddy to charge as they please. See for yourself, put a .org domain in your shopping cart, then click on US pricing on the top left of your browser, you will see the price at $7.99US, then you click on CAD pricing and you will see the crazy price of 15.59 CAD. So essentially if you Canadians are not careful, godaddy screws you canucks an extra $3.50 or so between US and CAD prices before currency exchange. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh and that's after they ass fucked you already into paying $150 for their "Discount Domain Club" membership. |
you can use my USA address for 100.00 (usd) per year ...

Move.org sold for $120,000 a few months ago It's the scam I am bringing up here, not $3. Even at $3 per domain, Godaddy sells a ton of domains a month/year to Canadians. If they are scamming Canadians at $3 per domain X number of domains bought by Canadians in a year, that adds up pretty quickly. Let me make this clear, I have no love lost for Canadians as I live in the US and very Anti Canadian but the fact remains, a scam is a scam. Godaddy is scamming canadians plain and simple. Quote:
I have lots of domains with Godaddy and the scam doesn't affect me in any way because I am in the US and billed in US funds. But for those Canadians who are unaware of Godaddy's scam, at least now you do. :) |
You don't have to buy the name in CAD. Buy it in US$. Godaddy runs discount pricing in various countries for whatever reason so if you buy a lot of domains it's best to keep track of the various discussions regarding them on the various forums.

Appreciate the concern, but pricing like that won't surprise anyone in Canada. It's almost a sport for retailers here, and often happens with online businesses as well. Even streamate was charging 50% more when visiting from a Canadian IP address (this was when the CAN dollar was on par or slightly higher than US).
Most of us find ways around it like using a US based credit card and such. I negotiated great domain pricing from enom years ago and sticking with them. |

GD is shady one way or the other. Domain pricing should be uniform right across the board because it's not like a tangible good where shipping etc.. comes into play where a higher price can be justified for different countries. Not to mention, GD keeps pushing their "Dscount Domain Club" and one of the selling points is that you are getting a discount by buying into the club for $150. But in reality, it couldn't be further from the truth. Discount Domain Club price for Canadians (org) = $15.59 CAD Name Silo Regular Price for canadians = $9.95 USD converts to around $14 CAD and Name Silo has free Whois Protection included. So the Discount Domain Club is a sham from the start :1orglaugh Quote:

They have to charge people in Canada more if they want .org domains. What is the problem? If they have to pay a tax/fee for you and they just pass that fee on to you. Why should they pay it? Not sure what the problem is.

Why i am only paying 2-3 USD for a godaddy .org domain?
|
anyone using those scumbags deserves to get fucked :2 cents::2 cents::2 cents:

you don't have to pay in CAD just because you're in canada. switch your currency on the site to USD and just pay the conversion on your credit card..
|
Only a fucking Canadian would be dumb enough to buy a .org in the first place.

Can't fucking stand godaddy thank God I'm done with them for food. Just to get a bunch of domains off godaddy registered to their piece of shit domainsbyoroxy whois privacy was a huge pain I'm the neck, took me years, a lot of domains registered to an old domainsbyoroxy account I no longer had access to and couldn't unlock domains, transfer them out because of it
Finally got the idea to create a duplicated godaddy account and was able to do an account transfer of the domains, instead of registrar transfer, then had to wait 6 months with all domains from godaddy under the duplicate account before I could finally transfer them off piece of shit godaddy once and for all! |

Just to troll them, I called Godaddy and the customer service guy kept telling me how "competitive" their pricing compared to other registars was, even if they are charging more to Canadians.
I asked him how is charging $17.79US for US customers for a .org "competitive" when Name Silo is only charging $9.95 which includes free Whois Protection included. All I heard was crickets on the other end :1orglaugh:1orglaugh I wonder if the Godaddy fanboys and the people who work for GD actually believe their BS about their prices being "competitive" :1orglaugh |
I've long played with "purchase parity" as a way to make more money. GoDaddy isn't scamming anyone, they're actually being really smart. If you're selling anything, you should be doing this as well!
Purchase parity is all about how consumers view the value of their purchase within their frame of reference. McDonalds is the king of purchase parity. The cost of a big mac meal in Encino CA is about $7. In New York City it's about $8. In the Ukraine, it's $1.20. The Big Mac Index ? Historical Data from the Economist's Big Mac Index It's all about charging what the market will bear. Some Canadian's feel $15 for a domain at GoDaddy is worth it (I don't, but others do). So GoDaddy is charging what the market will bear. If Canadians weren't willing to pay that much, GoDaddy would drop their prices. If you want to get domains for less, I suggest masking yourself as Ukrainian ;) |
It goes even further for their European customers, I was surprised that 1year renewal with godaddy will cost me 55 bucks or something, for one .com, ffs, cause of their super duper extra shit they added on their own, after much seeking and clicking how to remove this extra bs, I went back to cart to see that the price has been raised to 35 bucks for just standard private registration.... I used to have over 100 domains with them, now I got none.
I transferred my last domain away. Fuck’em. This is so wrong. They are fucking around with their customers to squeeze as much as possible. |
