To be fair, the hate isn't really generated by the leaders as nearly as much as its generated by scared people.

I can't say for Americans (I don't live there), but here in Russia all the hate is cultivated by a Putin-controlled media. Yes we have the independent media too, but it has a much lesser influence because it's not being funded by the government. Putin spends billions to anti-American propaganda here. Right now the propaganda mostly targets Turkey of course, but for a couple of recent months only.

The question "is a war between Russia and NATO is possible?" has been replaced with "when exactly the war will begin?" and "how a war between Russia and NATO will look like?" Personally I see nothing good in the current situation and I don't like the way it develops.

I believe you. Surely you've read "Il Principe", and I'd bet my last coin that Mr. Putin has as well. He's using anti-American (unjustified) and anti-Turkish (justified) sentiment to keep things stable while the economy gets bad. Then, when people are used to bad times, things inevitably get better.

As long as people can feed their children, that approach works.

As far as I can see he's the most benevolent strongman you've had as a head of state. I can't say for Russians (I don't live there) but based on your recent history I'd be scared of the person that comes next, the one who uses the apparatus Mr. Putin has built.

As for the US, we're headed for troubles ourselves. Our global hegemony collapses another 1% every year, our citizens are gearing up for a race war, and our cultural identity is irrevocably lost. We may come out stronger, or not, but there will be interesting times.

If there is a war with NATO, it won't be led by the US, therefore it won't really exist.

Not really "unjustified" actually. He uses it to manipulate the Russian citizens. As far as you should know, Russian ruble rate is falling because of low oil prices. Also we know that the USA have imposed sanctions against of Russian oligarchs and their actives. As an "answer" to those sanctions, Putin has imposed sanctions against... his own people (now you can see how crazy this mofo is). He has banned cheap and quality EU products (especially food). Course his sanctions have double-impacted pocket of the regular Russian citizen: once it was done by cheap oil and twice by banning of cheap EU products.

Now guess what Putin did? He said that all those financial problems were made by... (guess whom?) By Americans! Almost everybody here thinks that those bastards (the USA) have imposed sanctions against Russia and now an average Russian Ivan can not buy a Spanish jamon. If anybody think that's not true, he should listen to Obama, who says he did it.

So the hate is not so "unjustified". The US president is an idiot who works for Putin's propaganda (perhaps not intentionally, but because of his stupidity). In fact the United States shares about only 4% of the whole Russian trading system and course they can not hurt Russian economics somehow noticeably. But Obama thinks he is real responsible for a weaken ruble and he don't mind to say it publicly. Course Putin's propaganda pushes it on the top to make people think that the USA is the cause of their problems (Obama fully confirms that Putin's statement).

Here is the real reason of weaken ruble:

http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/624/med...rouble_624.gif

As you can see above, all the US and EU sanctions together do not actually affect the ruble rate while the oil price does it just easily. The problem is that Putin has made Russian economics fully oil-dependent. But it's a taboo to mentioned this in his media. If people will know the truth, nobody give even a month to the Putin's regime. So he plays "the enemy from outside" card to cover his own ass, especially if Obama is real stupid and always ready to play along. This is how the hate grows. As you say "it's just a business"...

P.S. Unfortunately the USA and Russia are highly militarized nuclear superpowers and these games may end up very-very bad for the whole planet...

Agreed. I meant unjustified in the sense that, were the facts known to both populations, that is, that the sanctions hadn't really produced a material effect, and that Mr. Putin is weathering the downturn in the classic way "let us all unite against a common enemy" it would be apparent that neither side is dealing true.

Regardless, there will not be a nuclear war between the USA and the Russian state. The Russian state doesn't have the mechanism or the will to revive the cold war, and the US doesn't care enough. When Obama is out of office, either Ms. Clinton or Mr. Trump (80% likely) will reach out to Putin and mend fences.

Again, if I were you, I'd worry about the next guy. The one who deposes Putin or takes over after him. If you get a Cincinnatus or another Gorbachev, you'll be great, but you know how unlikely that is.

I'm not worried about the next guy. If "the family" will win again, there will be a man similar to Putin who will serve interests of the same clan (e.g. Ivanov or Shoygu). Then nothing will change. The government will still only think of money its steals and how to keep the throne. If there will be a new man, say Navalny, it will be a new Peter I or Stalin who will start mass repressions against corruption. That will be a tough time for many here. On the other hand, our relationship with the USA and EU will be significantly improved.

P.S. When I say "the family" I mean mafia and I'm not kidding. I'm talking about the real mafia, not some Italian kids who robbing cars with dvd players. Those guys play for high stakes. For example he is a video about attorney general of Russia (the man appointed by the president of Russia personally), his sons, his deputy etc:

It's in Russian, but it has English subtitles. Just watch it. Almost everybody's here knows about that. Do you think those guys where arrested or sued? No. Nobody of them have even lost a job.

just a punk 01-05-2016 12:14 PM

When Putin was asked about that shocking investigation during his press conference, he just mumbled some nonsense:

Nice story bro. Are you Ukraine Nazi or some AllahSnackbar Chechen? You're obviously not Russian.

80+% of Europeans hate US parasiting on other countries. 90% of Europeans knows Turkey is ISIS partner. We all vomit on mainstream media propaganda.
We do not have media funded by Putin in Europe.

Who are "we"? :upsidedow

FYI: Chechens are the most dedicated Putin's people. Here they say "We declare to the whole world, we are combat infantry of Vladimir Putin (...) Viva our national leader Vladimir Putin. Allahu Akbar!":

These are the best Putin's friends and he's like a god in Chechnya, while his ratings in Moscow are very low.

just a punk 01-07-2016 05:22 AM

This is a video of that shameful Putin's inauguration in Moscow, 2012:

As you can see, there is no single person on the streets besides a few cops and FSB agents. It's like a whole city is extinct. Guess why?
