Cat INSISTS on using my office as a litterbox!

He just did it AGAIN! I'm about two seconds away from shooting this little fucker!

I just had over $2000 worth of wall-to-wall carpeting installed in my office a couple months ago, and recently this cat has decided to use a particular corner of the room as his new litterbox! WTF!? He never did this shit before. So I took him up to the vet, and they said he has a urinary tract infection. Fine. He took all his meds for that, and is better now, but he's STILL going in that corner! Nothing I put there stops him. I've used all kinds of cleaning products (which only served to further ruin the carpet), and even tried building a "blockade" so to speak to keep him from that spot. Doesn't do shit. He pisses on whatever I put there.

Now it's starting to fuckin STINK like skunk piss in that area. Anyone know of anything to stop this? He's about 4 years old and is fixed, but not going to live long enough to see 5 if this doesn't stop.

I'd give the fucker away, but my wife loves the damn thing.

:feels-hot

I've had the fucker for 4 years. He just now decides he doesn't like me?

He's treated like royalty around here, fed nothing but the best catfood, etc. But my dogs are gonna have a feast soon if this bastard doesn't smarten up!

:BangBang:

who said he just decided he didn't like you? Maybe he's finally got tired of all your shit, and is taking his revenge.

You could try poisoning it. :2 cents: :2 cents:

Cats will do that if their environment changes or feel threatened by change. Like moving or a new baby? If the cat is losing hair too then he is stressed. Your vet can prescribe a female hormone temporarily to your cat and that stops 75% of the cases. If not your vet might prescribe Prozac (sounds ridiculous I know) My sister just went through the same thing with her cat that she has had for 6 years.

stick it in the microwave

Cat the other other white me :thumbsup

Well, I tried the enzyme stuff. Just makes him piss OUTSIDE the treated area. So in fact, it's causing more of the carpet to be pissed on, the more I put the stuff down. What brand are you using?

The litterbox is cleaned daily, so that can't be it.

I'm thinking of investing in sliding glass doors to seperate the office area from the areas of the house where he's allowed to roam. But that pisses me off having to do that. As I said, he's never done this before until he got sick. Now he just won't stop. Everytime I see him wandering his fluffy ass in here, I have to get out of the chair and chase him. Pain in the ass.

That won't work, cats always land safely on their feet.

Orange peels will keep cats away. Or else just get one of those child gates so he can't come in. Sooner or later he'll forget that he wants to piss in that room so bad & you can take the gate down.

You know, if I have to put him on fuckin Prozac, I'm just gonna shoot him. I love animals (even cats), but this is just out of control. If I have to install sliding glass doors, and replace this rug just because he has fuckin STRESS, I'm gonna be the one who needs drugs!

We have a baby on the way, but could cats sense that? I don't know, I'm grasping at straws now.

Child gate won't work. Entrance way is too large. I'd need sliding glass doors, or french style doors or something.

Simple solution. Go to a real pet store (NOT a Petsmart or PetCo), and get this stuff called "Precious Cat Attract". It's a special litter. It comes in a small, red 20 lb bag. Use that. It'll solve your problem, guaranteed.

Sam I Am 03-21-2003 05:34 PM

Your cat knows your wife is pregnant! My sister just had a baby last week. Her cat started marking everything about 3 months ago. Somehow he knew she was pregant. I guess cats know because women get really focused on decorating a nursery and buying baby things. Weird how cats are that perceptive.

Is there a place online where one can buy that stuff?

How about spraying him with water everytime he prances into the room? Keep him out of the room with carpet! It'll stink up your carpet, not to mention the hairs.

Anyhow, make sure your wife isn't cleaning out the litterbox. Here's a link about Toxoplasmosis

I tried spraying my cat with water and he just stared me down.

Put a feeding station there ~ he won't go to the bathroom on his food.

GTS Mark 03-21-2003 05:56 PM

Hmmm that is a weird one, usually cats only do that kind of thing when they are pissed off. One of my cats had a urinary infection and unfortunately died because of it. I am glad they caught your cat's infection in time.

I dunno. I'd be selling it if my website was up, but it's not yet. That stuff is 100%.

Sam I Am 03-21-2003 06:13 PM

They have a website at http://www.preciouscat.com/
Not sure if you can buy it there. I typed in my zip code and it says it is available at Petsmart. http://www.petsmart.com/products/product_27921.shtml

Yeah, that's something I've been worried about from the get-go. Our cat's an indoors-only cat, but still. I won't let her touch the litterbox.

PersianKitty 03-21-2003 10:15 PM

Is the cat fixed or not?

Best thing to do would be to put a litter box there... get him using it and then move it a few feet each day to where you want him to go.

I had a cat that was indoors only (got it as a kitten from the pound).. at the age of 18 years we found out she had Toxo. Often it doesn't show up until they age or get weakened by an illness...but they carry it all the same.

Marcus 03-21-2003 10:33 PM

Sprays work great for dogs, I dont know what they do for cats.

I just found a bunch of stuff on petsmart:

One thing you have to do for sure, is to get a good carpet cleaning company in there. Call around, there are usually some that are realllll familiar with cat spray problems and how to go about cleaning it up. If even a hint of the smell is there they will continue to do it. Especially if they aren't fixed.

If there is a wood sunfloor under the carpet, you may need to even pull the carpet back and cover the area with a good sealer like Binz or Kilz. Abit of lemon mixed with water in a squirt bottle usually works pert well to put a cat in 'scoot' gear. :winkwink: Some lemon pledge squirted in areas you want to keep a cat OUT of usually works well also.

You might talkt to your vet about removing the gland that male cats have as well. It excretes a hormonal based something or other and that is what makes the "urine" spray smell so terrible. It's some sort of oil based stuff to help insure the 'territorial marking' stays as long as possible. Sorry I don't know more details on that. I have a friend that is a vet tech and she has talked about that sort of thing before.

my cat started shittin behind my ceramic bathtub. I couldnt figure out why my bathroom stank so bad until I looked back there. so I grabbed the cat, smeared his face in his own feces, and slapped him around a bit. Then I put him outside on the balcony for 15 minutes. (it was wintertime).

He did it again and I did the same thing to him except beat his ass worse....

He never did it again......

hershie 03-21-2003 11:17 PM

Oh my, I hope my cat ages well.

A friend mentioned that cats share the same range of emotions and illnesses as humans. Didn't realize that.
