You don't know how to read imdb votes. First of all 200k votes is given mostly by kids, so check the split by age, these are the under 18 gave 9.1 average:
Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) - User ratings

Older guys 8.4:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) - User ratings

Still who are these guys? Most is people who would give 10 to anything with explosions on screen.

What it counts it is the most voted reviews, here:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Reviews & Ratings - IMDb

Most voted #1 review is 3 stars (1853 out of 3032 people found the following review useful), then #2 review is just 4 stars "Boring and Predictable" (1150 out of 1961 people found the following review useful), follows a 3 star, a 1 star, a 5 star, a 2 star, 1 star, 1 star, 1 star... and finally at bottom of page, a good review (845 out of 1564 people found the following review useful).

The issue with imdb vote is kids and guys who see only few movies at christmass and like them easily. The ones with some movie experience read and rate reviews so always open the reviews and scroll there, this is a better indication than the vote.

Also, there are other sites with less but more qualified votes, for example in metacritic the users vote is 7.2:

It's because 95% of GFY posters are cynical pricks with moderate to severe anxiety, and social phobias which means they hardly ever leave their homes. Thus creating what is called the "hyper-critical troll", or what society has labeled --- vocal over-opinionated assholes. :thumbsup

Craft 12-26-2015 09:43 AM

It's a wery good movie. When that said it's still a 2015 version of a new hope.

Rochard 12-26-2015 09:48 AM

I went to see it opening night and thought it was great. The plot was a little similar to the original plot - a race to find the droid with the secret information - but otherwise it was good.

There was an initial outpouring of love for the prequel movies - especially The Phantom Menace. After a few months, the honeymoon wore off and people started realizing how terrible it was.

Star Wars + JJ Abrams = gushing reviews where very few public figures want to speak any bad. I think think the luster will fade with time. It's a fun movie, but The Force Awakens almost makes me miss the story telling, and originality, of the prequel movies! Never thought I'd say that.

Your account must have been hijacked for your star wars worst movie ever thread because you just described it.

Not surprised you grab an opp to insult gfyers yet again.

If you're not pointing your finger at us, you're asking for votes.

because at GFY there's a high quotient of dumb assholes who can't enjoy anything in their lives.

But I wouldn't use IMDB ratings as a measurement of anything.

I enjoy a lot of diffrent kinds of movies, but I was pretty let down with this newest Star Wars..

It was literally a remake of a New Hope.. Added to this we get no real back story on what happened to the Empire and why this new group has taken over and is essentially the Empire with all the same troops and spaceships..

Even more we get no back story on why Han's son killed the other jedi's and joined the Empire v2.

Also a even bigger more bad ass death star that gets blown up by 5 x wing fighter with next to no real fight.

Also r2d2 just happens to be under a sheet right in the middle of base operations for the last 37 years? I mean really?

It was really a bad plot with bad tie in to the orginals.. They sold a lot of tickets, but they didn't sell a very good movie plot.

It was a good movie, although to be honest I liked it better the second time around. Plus, I drool for Agent Carter. so there.
