Did you turn Blackhat in 2015

Several of my customers did. How about you? will you wait until 2016?

In mainstream and offline bussiness, everything is blackhat anyways, so why stay clean?

Nicky 12-13-2015 03:46 PM

A lot have turned asshat the last couple of years...

MakeMeGrrrrowl 12-13-2015 03:49 PM

Nope. I just try to stay clean all around. Why? Cause I'm not here for a quick fix, I'm here for quality.

What's the definiton of BlackHat ?

sarettah 12-13-2015 04:02 PM

Ooops. Had to edit that out. I read the title as "Did you turn black in 2015" and the op as being Ferguson.

Totally different discussion.

I prefer not to spend my time looking over my shoulder or wondering why there's a car parked across the street from my house.

What do you mean on blackhat? Do your customers crack other sites to set up mail spammers and doorways? Do they glue the competition domains, use dirty tricks to get them out of business (e.g. to get their domains blocked and host services cancelled) etc? Everything else is not a blackhat. All those cloakers etc are grayhat techs.

I see my customers (hosting and infrastructure) do this:
- Buy fake ratings in review sites
- Buy/use fake Social Network profiles
- Spend 90% of their SEO budget on their own sites, and 10% on hurting the competition
- Blackhat SEO

Ferus 12-14-2015 03:00 AM

BTW - where did SmokeyTheBear go?

Lykos 12-14-2015 04:30 AM

I choose to stay clean and don't look back at my shoulders :)

I'd say it's a whitehat nowadays :)

That's what I asked in my post above. What do you mean on Blackhat SEO? Do they crack other sites to set their doorways there? How could you know your customers are doing that?

P.S. I have a few thousand of customers and I have no single idea what they are doing. Actually I don't care, because it's their business, not mine. My business is to maintain the scripts and provide a tech support.

Just saw his name in an old thread and clicked. He hasn't been here since 2012.

BoomBoomBenoit 12-14-2015 12:20 PM

When I'm pitching a client, I'll propose whitehat. It's the best long term play and has the highest ROI. Blackhat will get you there faster, but whitehat will cost your business less :)
