And you thought your first day at work sucked

This poor nineteen year old kid begged for a job, shows up, and dies in a horrible wood chipper accident his first day.

A 19 year old subcontractor working with 2 employees?

Kicking a piece of tree limb into a wood chipper -- what could go wrong?

And?

The other employees were experienced, what's the problem? 19 is old enough to be entrusted with far more difficult tasks.

Well, actually no it's not.

Before you operate any work machinery you need to do a Health & Safety analysis as laid out by the HSE or the specific organisation within your country.
Then you need to do risk assessments and any person(s) using such machinery should be fully trained in their use.

Maybe you should read the article before opening your noise maker.

My cousin was 5 years old when he got his foot caught in a grain auger and was killed. What a way to go. I imagine you are conscious for at least several seconds as you get sucked in.

Interesting question to ponder...the mind boggles at the thought of such a death...it must surly be similar to experiencing man's most primal fear of being eaten alive which, although rarely happens certainly we carry in our psyches into the modern world.

The kid was NOT a "subcontractor"

Someone was trying to bypass responsibility/taxes/insurance of an employee.

The owner of the company is going to be crucified by OSHA and lawyers.
