Help me choose a cheap drone / indoor copter for my son for Xmas?
Looking to buy my son an extra gift, but I only wanna spend about $100.
Obviously I don't expect to get a drone with a high def camera or anything unrealistic, but just a fun drone/mini copter he can mess about with as a gag gift. Even if its an indoor one. He has an iphone so can download and use an app to control it, so no need for a separate control unit. Just the thing that flies itself. Any suggestions or am I being totally unrealistic? Thanks :thumbsup |
You will not get much stability for 100 bucks.
While you save a buck on purchase, it will soon eat up the savings in spare parts. The ARDrone is probably what you want for a starter kit. |
So, you want to buy a cheap piece of shit ? :upsidedow

Rather than get a gag gift, buy him a dremel drill.
Its a great tool that will last him for years. And I bet he uses it more than a drone, and get more use from it. |

This is a great little bang around quad - Hubsan X4 Micro Quadcopter With Camera - Assorted Colors: Amazon.co.uk: Toys & Games
It doesnt have brushless motors or anything fancy but its a neat little toy thats decent quality |
Tractor Supply had one they advertised last week at 99.00
Had a cam and is a quadcopter, included a 4/6ch txer. Can't be to picky at that price. They were stating plenty of spare parts available. OH... sorry, did not see you were in the UK. |
Just go on Amazon, there are a ton of them less than $50 USD. Make sure you read the reviews and product details. One thing that turned me off is the average life of the battery for flight was between 5-7 minutes. From what I understand, people buy several battery backups. Otherwise you're playing with it for 7 minutes, and then have to shelf it a couple hours while the battery recharges.
I'm getting one for my nephew off Amazon. Not sure which one yet, but he's getting one. |
We got my son one is spain it was like 90 euros. Its small and black and has guards around the blades. Flys inside perfectly. Outside not so good.

I bought an indoor one for my daughter last year. Paid about £20, it was tiny. It was great fun for about 10 minutes and didn't seem to mind bashing into the walls and ceiling.
Unfortunately, tried to get it working the next day and nothing. It's still sat in the drawer from last Christmas. |
Check out amazon.
