i fucked up the best relationship in my life, due to this biz. it had nothing to do with the adult aspect of it. simply that i was (and am) working 120+ hours week, every week, every month, every year.

i sacrificed all to get to this point.

And was it worth it?

JeremySF 03-21-2003 01:00 AM

No, but I've almost broken up over my GFY addiction.

I'm guessing that would be on a case by case basis...

and that would be assuming that you would ever consider 'bragging' about your biz to anyone in the first place, regardless of what it was...

Your second? Daron you fucking stud :thumbsup

I am currently separated and my work has somewhat to do with that, although it's mostly space issues.. but my wife will want me to ease up my 12 hour daily shifts and squeeze her in my life from time to time..understandably so.

She did not like it when I was peddling porn, but she's a little more understanding with doing design work in adult.

programmer4hire 05-05-2003 09:21 PM

My ex wanted to start her own site...did so, fine, then she got idea to do private dances...made shit loads of money..then our marriage fell apart. She married one of her millionaire clients..oh well, better off without her anyway, atleast im happier!!

Chris

Me and my husband have worked in this biz for the last 5 years together. We even share the same big desk with our 2 seperate machines . I think it's great, the past 5 years have been the best of our 17 together......awwwww. :evil-laug

Makes you wonder, man. I personally would rather work 60 hours a week and make half as much, life passes you by and unless you are planning on living it, well, why bother working so hard.

It's a matter of philosophy: you're either on a journey or going to a destination.

You, my man, sound like a destination guy to me. I hope you're happy when you get there.

I'd rather work 120 hours a week for 5 or 10 years, have enough cash to live comfortably, take care of my wife & son and spend all my time with my family rather than work 60 hours a week forever.

Okay this is your plan...then in year nine you get hit by a bus. Guess what, you just worked 120 hours a week forever, for nothing.

by then your wife is the ex-wife and your kid doesn't look at you as dad anymore...

Family first...money 2nd...

OzKaNoz 05-05-2003 11:46 PM

My wife and I have separated a few time over the years because of the amount of time I put it this business. The issue wasn't really the business.
But once she started seeing the checks roll in and that I still worked a main stream 40 hour a week job at the time, she hasn't really said a word since.
I think she really woke up when I bought her a new car and gave her and my son a 2 week vacation in Colorado a year or two ago.

But like someone said earlier family comes first. And I owe my wife a lot for supporting me in being in the adult industry.

Nope, was a very easy divorce...could have to do with the fact that she was pregnant with her bf's(at that time, now hubby) baby...or the fact that none of her money was taxed or reported?? :)

I got divorced because I wasn't in this bussiness... and cared too much of what other people thought about me - and never what I thought about me. Funny thing is... when you quit trying to impress people... and just be yourself (no matter who you are) then everyone likes you. If you get divorced because of this biz, then it wasn't the right biz or relationship for both of you and you should be thankfull for the break-up. Sam Keen (Fire in the Belly - On becoming a Man) wrote: There are two questions a man must ask himself -
#1 Where am I going?
#2 And, who will go with me?

The moment those two questions are reversed... you're FUCKED! You cease to be a man.

Plus... the bigger slut I am, the more I get paid! I love my job!

prostock 05-06-2003 05:20 AM

I ended up in a divorce over it , she would tell me this isnt a real job , before i was making content , i had sites and doing content , and she would tell me you are home all the time no matter how much i was making to her she would alway tell me it isnt a job , some people and the little minds
oh well i am very happy now and have a new love so that is life and i have moved on to a better life with a wonderfull person :thumbsup

You know what they say..."All work and no play make Jim a dull boy"

Ambergirl 05-06-2003 07:03 AM

My best friend (and husband) and I have been adult webmasters for 7 years now so we understand and admire each others commitment to our careers...but even with that understanding, you have to have a good balance in life - work hard so you can play hard.

It's taken us awhile to really find that good balance between family, work and life in general; but once you start focusing on getting fulfillment out of every aspect of your life - work, family relationships, friendships, etc...only then can you really enjoy the fruits of your labor.

quiet, since you've sacrificed it all to get to this point, I hope you take some time to stop and smell the roses along the way as well.

I really feel for anyone who's dating or married to someone not within the business because I'm sure it would be hard for anyone else to understand the dynamics of the time needed to really make the industry work for you. Kudos to those of you who have gotten divorced and found your own groove, and also to those of you who are happily with someone who's understanding of your business.

{Hugs} to those of you who struggle with finding that good balance in life.

:2 cents:
