I've been following this one for a while. It's really fucked up. Montreal has had a pretty good reputation when it comes to water and sewage treatment. The current Mayor is not well liked anymore and this stupid move isn't gaining him any love either.

Sad day.

it is terrible but something to note is that during any major rainfall up to a million gallons of raw sewage is released into rivers due to the old style combined rainwater/sewage pipe systems. the water treatment plants can't handle all the water at once so i just gets dumped raw. this has been an issue in ottawa and they were suppposed to install these giant holding tanks so it doesn't happen but its still yet to be seen if they actually do this or its just talk.

that's about the equivalent pollution to 45 minutes of Alberta oil sands mining, so no biggie Canada.

Don't worry, the new Canadian "government" is going to save the world by shutting down the oil sands, banning oil and subjecting all Canadians but themselves to a life of carbon reduced poverty. Then they will be the heroes of the world and a model for all to follow on the road to hell. *

Anyway, to hell with him - he won't be getting my vote next time. Lots of people were paying attention to this issue. What the Mayor should have done is spend a few million dollars to pump the sewage out and had it transported and treated at a nearby treatment facility somewhere. It might have been expensive, but it would have at least shown everything that he gives a shit.
