Finland: universal basic income experiment

People from Finland, is this true:

The Finnish Social Insurance Institution, also known as Kela, has begun work on a proposal that would guarantee a basic income to every citizen of the small Nordic nation. This system of a universal state-facilitated payment delivered to every Finnish person would transform the state?s welfare system and potentially provide a blueprint for other countries looking to build a different kind of economy.

When fully implemented, the universal basic income would provide every Finnish citizen with a monthly taxfree payment of 800 euros, equivalent to about USD 881. This would replace currently existing social benefits received through the Finnish welfare system. Any income earned beyond the basic income will be taxable. Kela?s basic income proposal includes a trial period in which the payment delivered to citizens is only 550 euros, while existing benefits such as housing and income support would not be affected.

Yeah I've read about this one also.. however in that article they mentioned that this basic income thingy is against the constitution, so that needs to be changed also in case they want to implement it in the whole country..

Doesn't Switzerland have something similar?

Actually, a lot of libertarians and some conservatives in the US favor a basic guaranteed income for people in exchange for nuking welfare programs.

I've mentioned this idea in an old thread here at GFY and the consensus was that such government schemes rob people of the initiative to work or improve themselves. The criticism is valid.

As far as I know, there is something like that. Also city of Utrecht in Netherlands had same plans.

Anyway, I am planing to contact you regarding your offer in signature. I need something different but maybe you can help. I am delaying that for months, not enough time.

Sure thing, man. I'd love to help you set up a niche funnel.

I doubt that NGOs and many people with left-leaning views will be satisfied with this. They wouldn't be able to live without managing other people's lives.

They'd still get to. Just because people get free money every month doesn't mean they'll be smart with it. It doesn't get a crack addict off the street, because they won't prioritize the same way we would.

In fact it's one of the reasons the conservatives would like this. For one everyone gets paid, not just a certain section of society. Second, they know what poor people are going to do with their money... Spend it. Which sends the money up the chain and drives profits for the owners of the world.

We'll still need a lot of the services. Money doesn't solve all problems.
