A whale-watching boat with 27 people aboard has sunk off the coast of Canada on Sunday, leaving at least four people dead.

The 65-foot cruiser, Leviathan II, is operated by Jamie?s Whale Watching and went down near Tofino, on the west coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Jamie?s offers tours of the area on 65-foot cruisers and smaller zodiac-style inflatable boats.

Multiple boats and divers, including the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, are searching the area around Plover Point.

Killer Whales

You have to give them their space, a real tragedy as we all want the ultimate experience.it is amazing being up close to these magnificent creatures but mother nature bites back. watching them flip a seal 40 feet up in the air is so cool

Been there twice and done that (both whales and orcas watching). One of the best experiences i my life!

Sad for these people. The boats do not come closer that 150 yards to the orcas. Sometimes though orcas decide to come closer by their own.

They do not know yet if its due to the whales or something went wrong with the boat itself. Wonder how or why they drowned because what they give you is a full body suit that works as one big floating device if you fall out the boat. Super cold ocean could cause immediate hypothermia?

Tragedies happen even in the most beautiful places. Tofino is top!

This was a 65' boat with bar and heated area, so no body suits...

So very sad. :( The company is one of the best in town, apparently, and known for its professionalism. Just shows how unpredictable the ocean can be, unfortunately.
