South Korean forces on heightened alert!

I've not seen one post about this all evening/early morning..and I'm kinda suprised as there appears to be a lot of "news junkies" on here.

South Korea has put it's armed forces on the highest alert it has been on in SEVEN years. There is apparently real fear that the North Korean may just try something now feeling the U.S. is totally distracted with it's war in Iraq.

And to be frank, I've worried much MORE about the danger that North Korea poses than any Iraqi threat. When I heard this news earlier I literally gulped..as I have been leery of North Korea possibly starting something once the war in Iraq started. I continue to keep my fingers heavily crossed! Why hasn't Bush paid any attention to this situation, the ACTUAL threat to those nearby and to American lives HERE in the U.S.?

A week or more ago the military layed the ground work for a strike on North Korea just incase they launched an attack against the South during the Iraq operation. So the military is watching the situation.

people. Japan, China, and South Korea will deal with that. they don't like the idea of a united Korea just as much as us.

And, WHAT military do we use if something happens? 70% of our fighting force is in the Mid-East! We cannot patrol the entire world. If North Korea does initiate some sort of crisis, the U.S. is honestly short handed militarily to handle it.

South Korea would be in total ruins within 24 hours. North Korea has like the 2nd largest army after China. We only have 30,000 troops there, and the South Koreans' force pales in comparison.
North Korea has tons of artillary aimed at South Korea.

And note, I've not even mentioned their nukes.

We have a fleet there and they sent over either B1 or B2 bombers a week or two ago as well as stealth fighter bombers, so it easy to assume they intend to initially deal with it by air power.

South Korea has an Army of four or five hundred thousand, but you are right about death a destruction. North Korea will ultimately be destroyed and there will only be one Korea this time around. So if North Korea is prepared to commit suicide they will invade.

But every reputable source I've heard on this subject, political and/or military, has said South Korea would be over run by North Korea in a conventional attack. South Korea's forces would be routed. That's why we supposedly have our 30,000 men/women there..to trigger the "nuclear umbrella" to protect South Korea. We wouldn't let our men be destroyed without retaliation. And right now, the only true retaliation we have IS nuclear. I don't think those few bombers sent to Guam would stem the tide of a North Korean invasion.

Yes, it would be suicidal (in the end game) for North Korea attack. They would have to be CRAZY to do something like this. But then, their leader strikes me as VERY crazy! He makes Hussein seem almost reasonable!

Every thing you just said in your post is correct. Have you considered the fact that since we have excellent intel assets in North Korea that the Bombers were sent over and are armed with nukes for a pre-emptive strike agains Korea if the intel indicates they are about to launch an attack against the South.

They won't be fighting with bayonets, trust me.

I have a feeling you are not the only one thinking about this.

Maybe I'm just being selfish since I live on the West Coast, and no one knows for sure if North Korea really has a reliable long range missle that can carry a nuclear payload. Other than Alaska, Seattle would be the next closest U.S. target. Yep, I think I'm just a tad paranoid about all of this. But sometimes some paranoia keeps ya on yer feet.

They have not tested any ICBM's as of this point in time so don't worry about getting hit by a nuke from North Korea.
