questions about 4K

For those of you putting out 4K video, what Mbps/sec are you using on your websites, and when you downscale to 1080P what Mbps are you setting your videos to?

I'm just playing with it all and still have a lot to figure out but so far I've been doing 4K at 60/65 Mbps/sec and down to 1080P at 30/40 Mbps/sec.

I'm just starting out using the Sony AX33, I was planning on moving to a bigger 4K camera when new models come out but I have to say I'm pretty impressed with this one :)

sounds a bit much for 1080p - but for 2160p 60 mbps sounds about right

Thinking about moving this direction, does anybody know if the bandwidth and file sizes are worth it, given the small amount of people able to consume 4k? - Most of my users seem to be on mobile devices anyway.

I am not sure people are signing up to sites for 4k.

Most people these days use laptops and tablets, so 4k is going to be too high quality.

Yes there are people who look specifically for 4K , our analytics data shows that.

We have a few sites reviewed that have 4K. You can peek at their video specs too in the reviews. :)

For instance I think the Wank it Now 4K vids @ 16mbps look great. Of course it must depend on how much motion the videos have too, hardcore pounding might require higher bitrates.

I suppose you should just do some tests, have a few people judge. Shoot for the bitrate that looks good to everyone, or maybe a little bit higher just to be safe.

Thanks, I figured 60 meg would be decent since it's one of the options the camera has preset. the problem I'm having is when rendering 1080p i start getting a lot of vignette. Just did a1080P at 20Mbps/sec and it looks pretty good.

4K laptops are hitting the market and at pretty low prices, I'm guessing that many people will be searching for sites that offer 4K very soon.

One more thing. I think people who buy new gadgets first (4K screens or VR headsets) are the kind of people who are more likely to spend money on stuff they don't really need. Porn included. :)

4K is also something that's harder to find on free Tubes I think, so it's a reason to spend money on a membership.

Thanks for the input :thumbsup I'm going to try lower bitrates, but so far when I take it to low I lose a ton of detail and get a lot of vignette.

The YouTube template in Adobe Media Encoder uses 40 mbps the maximum you want to go is 50 for streaming but for archiving footage I would go 100 mbps.

I have been producing 4k content for almost 2 years now and recently shot on RED cameras using 6K this is awesome and allows you to pull amazing photos from the video eliminating the need to shoot stills for sex.

Is it all that better to use adobe's media encoder? I'm just learning Premiere pro so have been using it for rendering. Seems like it has the same output settings and options.

Adobe Media Encoder works great with my Adobe Premiere workflow I haven't used other software in over a decade so i am not familiar with anything else. I am also an avid PC user and build my own editing systems. I am not knocking and mac users but I like to configure my own system and components that work best for my workflow.

I remember about 8 or so years ago, a good portion of the people on gfy telling me I was crazy for streaming 720p on my sites, and then 1080p... telling me no one would ever want to bypass downloading their content over HD streaming... :1orglaugh
