That was then, now the porn industry (most of it) can't even abandon Flash for HTML5.

Most billing systems are ancient and rely on batch processed technology and there's been no real payments innovation, if there had been MasterCard & Visa would have a viable competitor.

Most companies are caught up in the process rather than the content, most companies have lost the zeal to create better products and services. The most advanced companies are the ones everyone here hates.

CrakRevenue and Plugrush innovated but fully responsive ad tools are still rare.

The porn industry for the most part doesn't innovate anymore. The people who do innovate like RUC (Ruseful), FuckYouCash, Mindgeek, CrakRevenue and Plugrush are a rarity these days.

Disclaimer: I think MindGeek have lost a lot of their innovative zeal in recent times.

Yesterday's hero's are tomorrow's shit heads.
I say that in the mirror every morning :2 cents:

Most of the contemporary internet is not porn related.
Porn is adapting but not innovating.
We follow and not lead too much ... :2 cents:

interesting

Adam Wade 09-21-2015 07:22 AM

Yep, so the future of Internet is not on Apple and Google presentations but on the porn forums. :)

This infographic is entirely based on unfounded conjecture, much like how the movie, "Deep Throat" made $1 billion adjusted for inflation. The numbers don't add up.

Replace "porn" with "piracy" and most of the above applies.

Case in point: VCR - did your parents buy a VCR to watch porn, or to record TV shows?

Please stop saying porn drives innovation. It's just absolutely untrue. I can go back centuries. Was the printing press invented to distribute naked pictures, or to pirate books? Piracy drives innovation.

Barry-xlovecam 09-21-2015 09:47 AM

Gutenberg's first book was the Bible who did he pirate that book from? God :1orglaugh
Who was the internet pirated from?
Who was computer code pirated from?
Who was Facebook and Twitter APIs pirated from?
Who was GNU/LINUX pirated from.

Creativity, tradition, and intelligence have no property.

Why did Facebook and Twitter (others) open source their APIs?
Why is LINUX free to use?
Why is most computer code open source.

Sour grapes?
This is why there is a Netflix and there are Porn Tube sites.
One costs $7.99/mo the other cost an industry is profitability.
Who won?

And now the snake is eating itself.

mikesouth 09-21-2015 02:45 PM

this is largely wishful thinking for one porn had little to do with VHS beating beta porn supported both formats.

streaming media....mainstream is LIGHT years ahead of porn

online payment systems..porn lags by years hell the biggest processor CCBill hasnt even managed to implement direct deposit yet.

while it is true that porn drove internet development early on that stopped around 2000 when porn was less and less techies and more and more criminals.
Since when is stealing "innovation"?

Beta was most often used by adult producers back in the day since it was higher quality than VHS. Even after SVHS hit the market, we were still editing and duplicating from a lot of beta vids from various distributors. I remember the Sony 3/4" beta decks were far better quality, durable and more reliable than their VHS machines.

VHS (primarily) won because betamax was limited to one-hour recordings. And VHS machines were cheaper for the consumer.

Look at this way what would you rather invest a porn company or a mainstream tech company?
