INSTANT MESSANGING PROGRAMS?!! What is the most common?

Hello Gfy,

I signed up for a webmaster board and they are aking for an AIM ID. WHat the fuck is that I thought!

And I get emails asking me it I use msn messanger or yahoo messanger.

Im old school in that I use ICQ still for my work contacts. What's the diffenceres in the programs. I have msn messanger for all my friends but I stick to icq for work.

What are you experiences with AIM, Yahoo and Messanger. What's this about trillion as well?

I know messganger programs can be the devil if not used properly.

DrewKole 03-19-2003 12:21 PM

lol...

Here is a tip for you.

Use trillian for AIM/Yahoo/MSN.

Use the real ICQ for ICQ.

2 programs open, less resources needed.

Trillian + ICQ = The Devil

Wizzo 03-19-2003 12:22 PM

I like ICQ for work and Yahoo for play(web cam rocks)...

Trillian Pro works the best. It wraps every major IM prog into one simple and easy to use interface panel. Works perfect.

Matt 26z 03-19-2003 12:32 PM

AIM is by far the dominating instant messaging program. You can also add to that the 30,000,000 AOL screen names.

MSN's and Yahoo's are wannabies.

ICQ is sooo 1997. I don't know why people even use it anymore other than the fact that they have to just because others are.

angeleyes 03-19-2003 12:51 PM

I prefer AIM and you can download it for free at www.netscape.com

asuna 03-19-2003 12:52 PM

powwow :D

smack 03-19-2003 12:54 PM

i prefer aim just because i can never find anything in the icq menu's. but icq will save your messages if you're offline which is nice. seems most people on here prefer icq. msn/yahoo messenger kinda lick nutsacs.

icq

Whoa! hahaha...is that thing still around? I remember talking to some trailer park people from Portsmouth, Ohio all the time on that. They were hilarious.....They always got drunk on aftershock, which is disgusting to us, fine liquor to them.

B40 03-19-2003 01:01 PM

MSN and ICQ.

Giorgio_Xo 03-19-2003 01:04 PM

I also recommend trillian although you are much more likely of having to update the program often.

ATL_Ryan 03-19-2003 01:07 PM

Use Trillian for all 4. I've never had a problem with Trillian and have been using it for over a year. Our entire staff uses it and they provide regular updates.

ZoiNk 03-19-2003 01:10 PM

The three you need are:
ICQ www.icq.com
MSN dunno msn's website for it
AIM http://www.aol.com/aim/home.html

Icq is the most dominant, then AIM (Aol Instant Messanger) (for adult webmasters). From what I hear AOL is making it so AIM and ICQ will be able to communicate with each other.

I won't post a comment here on the link between AOL and intelligence (or lack thereof).

I'm a trillian fan too. What's the story with the above equation? Trillian works fine for ICQ for me.

Ryan I downloaded it and I started a yahoo aim account. Now It added my messanger contacts but my icq ones are not there.

Ideally this program puts all your contact s from all the program in on area. This way you dont have open up all programs.

am I on the right track here??

Sid70 03-19-2003 02:35 PM

well.. i'd say ICQ is most common, but AIM is very close.
MSN and YAHOO are not in big use. Trillian lucks 'reality', it pops up the message into the user's window when it is not on the receiver's PC yet, ICQ rolling guys shows R E A L message delivery time. That is what i like the best. So i use icq and AIM (msn+yahoo) are optional.

considering trillian... i suggest there is better to have 3 different things then 1 trillian untill it is fixed, lotsa bugs.

Tala 03-19-2003 02:38 PM

I use them all, simply because there's folks out there who prefer this one over that one, etc ad nauseaum. Trillian is very much cool, just don't use ICQ in Trillian, but for all the others....

:)

post your aim id let me try it out! Im a virgin Aim user!

My ICQ hit's it's 600 limit every so often, and I gotta go delete some users sometimes. But I'm nervous to try Trillian and add my ICQ to it. ICQ seems shaky enough as it is at full capacity.

foreverjason 03-19-2003 02:55 PM

ICQ is by far the best or trillian

Nima 03-19-2003 03:00 PM

I prefer icq over any other program as well but then again like Tala said there are some who prefer aim or msn or yahoo over icq so you gotta have all if you want to be in contact with everyone :) the only problem I am having as well is that my icq keeps reaching the 600 limit so I have to delete a few contacts everytime to squeeze in a new contact :(

just don't use ICQ in Trillian
Why not?

I don't have problems with it.

Butrflied 03-19-2003 03:38 PM

I like ICQ, Yahoo and Trillian because of their archiving/history options, helps me remember what I was talking about .. since I've got such a short attention span. I like using my webcam with Yahoo, so easy, plus Yahoo has pretty cool emoticons. Anyways .. I actually run AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo .. I know I should get trillian pro, but I'm used to doing this stuff my way. Don't like mixing up my Yahoo contacts with my MSN people, ya know? :2 cents:

slaphappy 04-18-2003 09:18 AM

ICQ probably

LeeNoga 04-18-2003 09:19 AM

Trillian rocks! :thumbsup

Tipsy 04-18-2003 09:32 AM

Trillian works great with ICQ with the pro version. If you're not using the pro version pay the small amount for it as it's MUCH better. If you're gonna be cheap and use the free version then the ICQ interface does suck a little.

Because most people just want a source for basic communications. not lots of bells & whistles..

Not worried about fancy backgrounds, smiley faces, yada yada..

I use ICQ lite.. barebones.. does the job just fine...

notion 04-18-2003 04:28 PM

If you are going to use AIM:

www.jdennis.net

Get DeadAIM, logs IM's, gets rid of ads, etc.

Pappa 04-18-2003 04:33 PM

I use the free version of trillian with ICQ and MSN. Have't had any problems with it ever.
I prefer ICQ over MSN. If it hadn't been for some of my friends and my counter strike - clan I would never ever install :BangBang: MSN on my puter.
Some of them don't even know what ICQ is, those uninformed twats...

DennisS 04-18-2003 05:33 PM

here is a very useful program for aim

if you only use aim or ICQ you can have logging working with aim in new 5.0 version

here is the link

enjoy

I am a new user to Trillain .74 (the free version). I use it with ICQ and Yahoo messenger. Perhaps I'm missing something, but it does not seem possible to set it up to work with BOTH ICQ and AIM, it looks like an either/or situation. Does the pay version of Trillian fix this.

Also I had had problems getting the ICQ peer to peer functions (file transfer) to work through a NAT firewall. I though I punched the right holes in the firewall , but just can't seem to get it to work. Suggestions?
