Looks like the religion of peace is culturally enriching some people again.

I would be SHOCKED if it is someone from the religion that teaches acceptance and blending of cultures did this. It's the religion of peace! Anyway it must be "extremists" right? right?

jscott 08-17-2015 07:18 AM

Thailand gov is forever fighting the muslim extremists in the southern part of Thailand, Yala etc. Sometimes they find their way into BKK, but never been this bad

AdultKing 08-17-2015 07:33 AM

If anyone has been to Nana Plaza at Soi สี่ in Bangkok, can you imagine if someone targeted the entrance lane way ?

There would be no escape. Friends and I have contemplated this danger before while having a drink on Soi สี่.

It's pretty scary that the bombings, once mainly prevalent in the south, seem to be happening much more in the tourist areas. A few months ago it was Koh Samui, now Bangkok. Scary.

Edit: been on Facebook and accounted for all my expat friends in BKK. Not pleasant.

Oh man that would be a terrible spot for a bomb, I know exactly the place you're talking about, the nana burger / ladyboy hangout spot

Exactly, that sub soi is the main entrance to three whole floors crammed with people.

If you sit back and think about it.... The future we feared is here. We feared the time when "terrorists" would randomly attack and bomb innocent people to get their point, and governments - i.e. "big brother" - would clamp down to try to protect us.

Well that future is now here.

michael.kickass 08-17-2015 09:29 AM

So here we go again.

BabeHunter 08-17-2015 09:51 AM

crazy stuff, it's a very central/touristy place

AdultKing 08-17-2015 10:43 AM

This is the scene of the bombing.

Translated from Thai

Quote:

"The explosion rang out at Ratchaprasong intersection in front of the Shrine explosion flooded cars running nearby. It is expected to open by the bombing. The fire engulfed several cars in the country. And died about 4-5 and injured more than 20 people, most recently the firemen to the scene, more than 10 cars and speeding bring the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent ago.

The latest deaths, about 6, and the heart pumps 2-3, by most lights parking area. And more than 20 wounded officers were taken to nearby hospitals accelerate immediately. The Basics The train stopped providing the above points. And police cordoned off all aspects. And showed a large bomb craters. The fence of the Erawan Shrine."
However we now know that 16 people were killed and 82 injured, shredded body parts scattered the scene in the photo above.

This is a really busy area usually, especially at that time of the evening, the Skytrain is there, it's a main intersection, there's large shopping centres nearby. Very nasty.

jscott 08-17-2015 11:18 AM

There are close-ups of those body parts already circulating, pretty disturbing images, from some of the first people at the scene.

JuicyBunny 08-17-2015 02:38 PM

Voice of America (CIA) was reporting on the scene via CNN within minutes. Smells more of political faction violence (as mentioned in the article) than anything else. But who knows.

A friend of mine posted a photo to Facebook about 2 minutes after it happened.

Things go global in seconds these days.

I've had the same discussion with friends as well. Surprised it hasn't happened there. Yet.

PaperstreetWinston 08-17-2015 06:10 PM

Yeah, the CIA guy said they learned of it on Twitter. Many people thought it was thunder.

I have some beautiful pics of that shrine. Women dancing, everything gold... I hope the catch the people responsible and torture them the old fashioned Thai way. Fuck a trial. TH don't need a trial in this matter.

Anyone living in Thailand... Has the water rationing started? El Nino is going to be a bitch this year according to news. Thailand is supposed to go on rationing.

Maybe some group is pissed about all the dirty foreigners drinking up the water?

CaringNeo 08-17-2015 07:06 PM

And this happened when the military government is ruling country. :(

For the most part you won't see much difference when the military has control of Thailand, in fact after Thaksin Shinawatra was removed things seemed a lot better under the military.

I've been in Thailand during three coups, not much affected anything to the normal person on the street.

It was only the one in the early 90s that got really nasty for a bit, but even then things settled down a lot and life went on.

Not only in Bangkok. Still remember the case when a crazy local has shot two Russian tourists (warning: a graphic image inside).

Manfap 08-18-2015 05:13 AM

Just old skool political rather than religious.

JuicyBunny 08-18-2015 06:07 AM

Suspects, red shirts from Isaan. I love Isaan. Too bad for Isaan.

j3rkules 08-18-2015 06:23 AM

Wait a few years and events like this will be a daylight in Europe. The intelligence organizations are not doing enough (or nothing) to prevent such attacks.

Europe had it's political terrorists in the 70's/80's. Greece still has from time to time.

JuicyBunny 08-18-2015 07:40 AM

Now media is back stepping and pointing fingers elsewhere. Maybe farang...
