Playing with Windows 10

I am a computer geek by nature so before I go hog wild installing a new OS on my main PC, I decided to play with it a little bit. It's not like I don't have enough computers to tinker around with.

So far I find Win 10 easy to work with. You can quickly remove stuff from task bar, including that search, and much better control of the taskbar and how it works on multiple monitors. A handful of tweaks and it looks like just Win 7 with a different start button.

So far my favorite feature is the clock. I work for Dating Factory and all of my co-workers are in Europe in different time zones and I need to track them. Godmode has a feature where you can add in multiple time zones to the clock on your task bar. Pretty neat.

Would you say windows 10 is a gym?

dyna mo 08-09-2015 04:52 AM

you are a computer geek so you went hog wild and tweaked the task bar & clock a bit then hi-5ed yourself for figuring that out. well done.

It is quite the accomplishment for rochard.

I put windows 10 on 2 computers here.

On a desktop PC that had I have been unimpressed so far.

On an older IBM/Lenevo Thinkpad with Windows Pro 64bit set to tablet mode I do see an improvement. The Tablet mode is a much cleaner desktop. I got rid of the windows 8 style tiles on the desktop. Logitec webcam works fine along with its built in mic. All the installed programs that I need and have tested seem to work. Open office, Skype ... IBM/Lenevo Thinkpadad 12'' tablet/PC suitable for traveling. I may buy a new one with an i7 ...

ooooo, oooo, :warning ; BREAKING NEWS -- I HAVE THE NEWS MONKEY INSTALLED!!! LOL Computing for the masses.

Main reason I upgraded to Windows 10 was to extend the os support term to 5 years out which would exceed the life of the hardware most likely.

And MicroCrap finally changed the Taskmanager GUI and got rid of the Windows 2000 - Windows7 GUI.

Rochard. a question> the issue I'm having with win 10 is the mouse dropdown menu in edge, the browser. I'm haven't been able to find a way to have the search functions on the menu like I have in IE 10.... are you able to find a way?

Understandable. Windows 10 is the first good OS Microsoft has released since Windows 7. Shit, even I switched to Mac when Vista came out. I didn't come back until Windows 7 was released. Windows 10 is easily the best Windows OS yet. Check it out when you get the chance.

adultmobile 08-09-2015 09:53 AM

I use win 10 and have linux VM's (ubuntu mostly) with copy/paste and shared folders.
I remember when people of commodore and apple used to say windows sucks.

Relic 08-09-2015 02:09 PM

Cortana concerns me from a privacy standpoint. Otherwise, I like it. It's w64's lean and mean.

fris 08-12-2015 05:26 AM

installed it without issues in vmware on my mac

I think it is just "eye candy" my desktop Windows 10 PC is a testing for development box, for some applications that are only ported correctly for Windows, and I have the big speakers to watch Netflix on it.

My workstation PC desktops are all LINUX. Windows is amateurish consumer computing to me. Windows, even Windows 10 is for consumers and business technically unsophisticated users -- dumbed-down in my book but useful for some applications/programs; Skype with sound and cam, official IM clients for cams and file transfers (hope my AV works right. LOL -- Winblows).

I'll stick with Tux the Warrior -- Terminal IO doesn't scare me ...

You Windows users have come to have very low expectations of an operating system...

Most people don't pay any attention to their operating system.

It's like cyclists. They pay attention to every single ounce of weight on their bike and strive for ultimate efficiency, yet couldn't tell you anything about the transmission in their car. Most people who work with computers are completely unaware of the differences between operating systems so long as their computers work.

What a cunty thing to say and with no purpose at all except to participate in the same old and frankly quite boring kindergarten game of my "fill in the blank" is better than your "fill in the blank".

NaughtyVisions 08-12-2015 07:55 PM

So how do apps like Skype work on 10? As I mentioned in another thread before 10 was fully released, on 8.1, the built in Skype only lets you sign in with the Windows account you are signed into. I had to download "Skype for Desktop" just so I can sign into my Skype account (obviously different than my Windows account).

With 10, will I be forced to use the built-in Skype? Can I sign into different accounts with it? Is "Skype for desktop" still an option with 10?

Thanks!

I haven't installed the skype app on windows 10 and am using skype for desktop exclusively without issues.

I'm going to assume you're a Mac user (I mean who else could come across as being a total twat right?). What, in your opinion, do you feel makes OSX better than Windows 8 or even 10? Besides the fact that there's less viruses and updates of course.

Oh look. A Mac user who is convinced of their own superiority. How novel.

Operating system is a operating system. It is enough for me that it operates. Same thing with other stuff pretty, unless I have to build something. You can't know everything about everything, you have to make choices.

Yea it's the same shit that company always does. I would NEVER EVER put down any % of clients for any reason and on a public forum! GREAT JOB!!:thumbsup

Rochard 08-13-2015 07:56 AM

So far all of my computers and laptops are on Win 10. No issues. My only complaint is that it takes forever to install. I mean "walk away and go do something else" long.

j3rkules 08-15-2015 11:18 AM

So far so good. Still there are some bugs that need to be fixed.

They are releasing updates in mass which fix multiple bugs at once...so it is just gets faster, and more functional with each release.

Need more help here is a very active forum on Windows 10

Vendzilla 08-15-2015 11:59 AM

I just upgraded, so far, no concerns, not much different

I got some problem with the menu bar after I have installed the latest system updates, for the three days I was fixing the damn thing and finally I opened a new user and it works there.

You know that there was a new update released last night right?

Go to updates and install it if you have not done so already. :thumbsup

Go it. You can always set a restore point prior to ANY changes to do which will "undo" any problems should you have any. :thumbsup

Personally I did it from Linux (I have both Win7 and Linux) installed. If you don't, you can download any bootable version of Linux and load the system right from CD/DVD/USB stick. After that you can do everything you want with your Windows files. E.g. go to /Windows/System32/GWX and simple delete the abuser :)

j3rkules 08-16-2015 02:07 PM

If you are not interested in Windows 10, you can remove this program from your PC. Go to Windows Update->Installed update, remove KB3035583. Also, you need to hide the update again in windows updates to prevent it from auto installing again since this is marked “important”.
