SEO "strategy" of 3rd party brand linkbuilding: opinions?

Hi guys,

Wanted to ask you your opinion about something I observed lately on Google (Spain), stuff that skyrockets in positions and their main strategy which, interestingly, works, yet I find it crosses the line a bit.

Basically webs like BingoPorno (just to name one) which are now 4th for "porno" that name categories in the site off other brands (Fux, Pornhub, 4tube, Xnxx, Vporn, TubeKitty, etc.), than take the anchor for linkbuilding for these brands (in SimilarWeb, f.ex, the samples are clear: Xvideos, Redtube etc as main kwds) and get to the top like that (the categories do not even belong to affiliate programs of the brands, mostly).

From 6k backlinks (only), 500 is just "porno" and the rest contains the kwd. So far so good. There is less than a 100 of domains linking to the web and some links are crossed with the 3rd party brand names + porno.

I find using other brands to link to your site sad and misleading to be honest. Moreover, it is quite against Google´s guidelines. The thing is: it works, and the webs get a third of a million uniques and were mostly born, literally, one to three months ago. Apart from all the legal issues that it may bring (if it does, cause I don´t know how it works with brands and links), what do you think about this practice? Do you implement it in your sites? Does it work for you? Do you recommend it?

Sad for the surfer that is true. I can see it if you promoting brand or domain but most just do it to steal the google joose.

Yes, so sad. Giving away hundreds of thousands of full length videos for free. Poor souls.

Google won a lengthy court battle against LV over the right to sell the LV name to LV competitions in keyword ads. Google wins Louis Vuitton trademark case | Media | The Guardian

Misappropriating brands into keywords and page titles would seem to be less of an infringement than what Google won the right to do. In fact, ads sold on your page could be argued to simply be another form of keyword advertising already covered by the Google vs LV precedent.

But there is a big loophole ...

[I]f Google is found to have a "neutral" role, that it is merely "technical, automatic and passive pointing to a lack of knowledge or control of data", then it cannot be held liable, the ECJ added.

Google cautiously welcomed the ECJ ruling, ....
For ad media and consumer targeting. Some random porn site playing that game with another porn site's SEO will never get to court :2 cents:
