Scanner Freak

Yes, I have to admit. I am a scanner freak. Odd fetish huh. My favorite scanner is a Bear-cat. I had 6 of them at one point. However I thinking about trying something else. Does anyone else have deep knowledge of any kind of scanner, please let know. Price, features, pros, cons

Regards,
P

But if you plug it in your dream car you will only have a 20 miles autonomy. :1orglaugh

Our local cop radio system is digital and encrypted. No descrambler app available for android. And usually when something really serious is happenin' they switch to cell phone push-to-talk.

Fire calls are still analog, though...so we can hear those.

You will like the Police Scanner+ app if you have a iPhone, feeds through radioreference.com

The airwaves are encrypted around here with RC4.

Yea, Go with an app. Since you are in LA somebody is probably transmitting. Or get a digital scanner. My old analog scanners are paperweights now.

Somewhat related. If you are into radios and hacker stuff. You won't be able to pick up police or anything but the Software Defined Radio looks like a fun hobby.
Amazon.com: NooElec NESDR Mini USB RTL-SDR & ADS-B Receiver Set, RTL2832U & R820T Tuner, MCX Input. Low-Cost Software Defined Radio Compatible with Many SDR Software Packages. R820T Tuner & ESD-Safe Antenna Input: Electronics

All the emergency services around the world are slowly moving toward encrypted communications, so over time there will be less of those to listen to over time.

There's still a lot of other stuff to listen to. If you're interested in radio generally consider getting into amateur radio.

3 radio shack digital trunking scanners. 1 by my desk (also hooked up to my PC) 1 mounted in my car and 1 handheld. This is my third set of scanners. I stated with the ones in the late 70s where you buy crystals for each frequency.

I have mainstream niche "news sites" and twitter feeds and tons of followers. Guess where i get many of my scoops

Any ap is not the same thing. Just wait for a hurricane or significant event when cells go out. They also don';t have all the tactile and "local" channels in many agencies.
