Your Favorite Billy Joel Song Is?

Mine is We Didn't Start the Fire.

Still as relevant today as the day he recorded it.
Saw him perform it last year at the Hollywood Bowl - Awesome show :thumbsup

There is no wrong answer.

I don't think I have one specific one.

You may be right
Only the good die young
The stranger
Piano man
My life

All favs of mine.

The Porn Nerd 06-04-2015 02:32 PM

'Captain-motherfucking-JACK'!

And 'Vienna'.

MaDalton 06-04-2015 02:41 PM

i didn't know he never released a new album since 1993 (not counting one with classical piano in 2001)

LAJ 06-04-2015 02:49 PM

Surprised by some of these answers. His best work is hands down what he released in the 70s up thru Glass Houses.

Too many great songs to mention.... but "The Stranger" in entirety is a fuckin masterpiece.

Yes, of course that is amazing as well and you are right, his body of work is so impressive that nearly an of his songs one could mention are classics :thumbsup

Always liked Piano man

Rochard 06-04-2015 04:10 PM

I love "The Stranger".

But my all time favorite is "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant"

That was always my fave.

Allentown was a close second. Never been to the actual place, but I photographed the abandoned Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna, NY...and had the song in my head the entire afternoon.

LAJ 06-04-2015 04:54 PM

Funny thing is... I have been a fan of Billy Joel since 1977 when "Anthony's Song" came out. Then I discovered "Piano Man"... and was a fan ever since. There have always been people to give me shit for liking him... could never figure that out LOL...

I agree. Great song (he has many). He is also a great performer. I saw him in the mid 1990's and it was one of the best concerts I have been to.

Mutt 06-04-2015 04:57 PM

great songwriter - besides all the huge hits he had, i loved this overlooked song

All for Leyna

Great one as well.

Beside being a great lyricist and having an amazing voice he also firmly cemented his place as iconic by making great visuals back in the "golden age" of MTV music videos.

He is also a very publicly "out" atheist and this is very often reflected in many of the themes of his lyrics as well. :thumbsup

Glass Houses is a great album, though I think Turnstiles is the best. My favorite song of his is from Glass Houses:
