its a power edge 600 SC server. not bad. I just bought some ram for my current server dell had a sale. about $50 for 256 mg ram for the 600 power edge.

Probably way more than you would need for intranet. But if you need storage stick in 4 - 120g hard drives. IDE is plenty fast these days.

here, do this:

get yourself a decent but cheap board (like a biostar), add 512mb ram, and a duron. then drop in a promise sx4000 with a 256mb ram chip, and 4 100+gb drives, and let the raid 5 settle in.
