A judge ruled against Chicago police and ordered them to release a photo that shows two rifle-toting officers kneeling over a black suspect wearing deer antlers.

The Polaroid picture, believed to be taken between 1999 and 2003, was turned over to the city by federal prosecutors after Jerome Finnigan, one of the officers in the photo, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for organizing robberies and home invasions with other cops.

The other officer in the photo, Timothy McDermott, was fired last year by a 5-4 vote by the police board, reported the Chicago Sun-Times.

The dissenters said McDermott should only be suspended, but the majority said treating the unidentified black suspect as ?a hunted animal is a disgrace and shocks the conscience.?

Attorneys for the police department and McDermott, who is appealing his firing, asked Judge Thomas Allen to keep the photo from being released to protect the suspect?s privacy.

The judge denied the request in March, and the Sun-Times recently obtained the photo in a court file.

Finnigan told prosecutors that he and McDermott had arrested the man because he had ?20 bags of weed,? but neither officer filed an arrest report for the case and they apparently let him go because he did not have a serious criminal background.

The person who took the photo, which Finnigan said was a ?spur of the moment? stunt,? has not been identified.

The police superintendent said the photograph was ?disgusting? and ?despicable,? and he said both officers deserved to be fired.

Just goes to show the cops are usually the biggest criminals of them all.

MrBottomTooth 05-27-2015 02:54 PM

Why does the black guy seem like he is playing along? Sticking his tongue out like a dead deer, etc. You'd think he would have told them to fuck off.

Yeah, and jumped up and slapped the guns out of their hands and shouted "black power" before returning to his cell under his own power.

Thats what im asking...he was forced at gunpoint to do this? Theres no mention of any harm being done to him in the article so i wasnt sure if they just left that out. I sure wouldn't allow myself to be photographed like that unless they were beating the shit out of me or had a gun to my head. And then after i was released with no charges like he was, id be calling a lawyer.

mineistaken 05-27-2015 03:17 PM

That is bad. And even worse knowing that he din do nuffins.

TheSquealer will explain to you how the cops are OK and that guy deserved it.

MrBottomTooth 05-27-2015 03:34 PM

Well i read some more about it and a possible idea is they told the guy to pose like that in exchange for letting him go, and then pocketed his weed.

Thats not what i said at all. I was trying to figure out why he posed in the pic like he was part of the gag, when apparently he hadn't had the shit kicked out of him. Trading the pose in exchange for being let go seems the likely scenario.

Yeah the police chief thinks that cops who let someone with 20 bags of weed go free just to get a jack-off pic are total scum bags.

they sold the 20 bags back to him :disgust :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Well maybe in this scenario, but if you read the rest of the article it appears one of the cops is serving 12 years in prison for some pretty shady stuff.

SuckOnThis 05-27-2015 04:28 PM

Yea they let him go so they could steal his weed. One of the pigs (no offense to real pigs) is now serving a 12 year prison sentence for robberies and home invasions. But he was a 'good cop' for letting him go. Idiots.

Some people do things before they get the shit kicked out of them in an effort to prevent getting the shit kicked out of them.

Don't ever question a rape victim that survived, you're probably not good at that.

I'm not a cop so i wont be questioning anyone. Im also not a drug dealer so thankfully i won't have to pretend to be a hunting trophy either.

Not saying that he was good in general. Thread is about this pic and about this scenario.
BM + BM would have posted and insinuated that dindo nuffins was beaten and cops were racisss and so on, while it was not the case, they gave that dude a break :)

They should be fired anyway for not revealing who took the photo. Blatantly lying shouldn't be acceptable from police officers.

The most troubling thing to me isn't the idiocy of these two cops. It's the four people on the review panel who thought the one cop shouldn't lose his job.

You would think people on a panel like that are more intelligent than the average street cop. But no.

The us vs. them mentality is systemic and engrained in today's US police forces. A fish always rots from the head.

Can almost guarantee the review panel is made up of retired cops.

Yes i know but i was confused why he would willingly participate in that photo. Took me a minute to realize they obviously told him he coukd go free if he posed for them.

which, seems kinda like a nice thing to do for the guy, regardless of how unprofessional and stupid the whole thing is..

to me using mugshots as targets, the kids/pregnant women as targets, is far more disturbing than 2 stupid cops and a very lucky dude who doesn't go to jail for however long 20 bags of weed would get someone.. however i understand the picture comes out at an extremely bad time

Well, they let him go despite having substantial amount of weed (if that is true). Playing along was good deal for him. Maybe they had that "spur of the moment" after testing that weed? "Whooaa.. I am so fucking high.. let's dress you as a deer and let's pose for a pic. -Oookayy.. dude."

Why would anyone want to be in a picture that portrayed them as treating people like dead animals?

The mentality required to conjure up the concept should disturb you.

"We hunt people and kill them like animals" is their concept.

If Donald Rumsfeld posed an Iraqi like that then all hell would break loose.

Correct question:

Why would anyone choose to be in a picture that portrayed them as treating people like dead animals instead of going to prison for narcotics?

Answer:

almost everyone.

sorry, when i said 'a lot more disturbing', i wasn't indicating that i wasn't disturbed.

there is just a lot more crazy stuff going on that kinda make this seem like a moot point. For example, the fact a group of officers were involved in a conspiracy to commit home invasions

and the 'black center' the police force are rumoured to run

Yeah, but nobody get's out of jay walking tickets by telling the judge that more crazy stuff is going on;
so "more crazy stuff" is not a reason to ignore this problem either.

the point is we're talking about this rather than the seemingly ceaseless tide of things happening today.

If say that something is clearly off when he's playing along and they are holding .22 caliber rifles which weren't likely in the police station (re gun on the right looks like a .22 caliber Marlin) and it would be prudent to have all the facts before passing judgment. But of course, most of you run on straight emotion, not facts so that makes little sense to you.

Should the cops have been fired? It would seem so to me. It's not the way a police officer should be acting on of off duty or whether the guy in the horns thought it was also funny or not.
