Bloody battle leaves at least 42 dead in gunfight between Mexican police and drug cartel

Bloody gunfight between police and Mexican drug cartel leaves at least 42 dead

MEXICAN federal forces have killed at least 42 suspected cartel members during a three-hour gunfight on a ranch in a violence-torn western region, marking one of the drug war?s bloodiest battles.

Only one federal police officer was killed in the operation on Friday, which authorities launched after learning that ?armed criminals? were occupying the ranch in Tanhuato, Michoacan state, near the neighbouring state of Jalisco, officials said.

?Up to now, we have counted 42 suspected criminals killed and three more detained,? said National Security Commissioner Monte Alejandro Rubido.

Mr Rubido said the death toll was a ?preliminary figure,? suggesting the number could rise as investigators comb the vast property.

While he did not name the gang by name, Rubido said it was based in Jalisco, home of the New Generation drug cartel, a powerful heavily armed group that has become the top target of President Enrique Pena Nieto?s administration.

The cartel, which has links to gangs as far away as Asia and traffics drugs to the United States, has taken Mexican authorities head-on this year, killing 20 police officers in two ambushes in March and April.

On May 1, the government launched Operation Jalisco against the cartel. That same day, the gang killed seven troops and a policewoman when they downed a military helicopter with a rocket-propelled grenade.

some of us are waiting for blacks to be just as upset about the young black men that are murdered daily in Baltimore by other blacks as they are about 1 black kid who was also doomed to such a fate, but who happened to die in police custody. some of us are wondering when blacks are going to apologize for the many many lies surrounding michael brown, who basically robbed a store and attacked a copy and tried to take his gun... and where every other "fact" repeated daily in protests and sound bits were complete fabrications... you know, according to Obamas Attorney Generals findings. Some of us are wondering when that small % of blacks who whine the most are going to start pointing the fingers inward at unreal numbers of babies born out of wedlock, men in prison, no respect for family and family values, no work ethic etc. Wait!! Let me say it for you... i'm racist! Because thats the only fucking argument idiots like you will ever have... otherwise, you'd have to start dealing with hard facts and uncomfortable truths.

Ohio patrolman acquitted in 2 deaths amid 137-shot barrage

CLEVELAND (AP) ? A white patrolman who fired down through the windshield of a suspect's car at the end of a 137-shot barrage that left the two unarmed black occupants dead was acquitted Saturday of criminal charges by a judge who said he could not determine the Cleveland officer alone fired the fatal shots.

Michael Brelo, 31, put his head in hands as the judge issued a verdict followed by angry, but peaceful, protests: Outside the courthouse police blocked furious protesters from going inside while across the city others held a mock funeral with some carrying signs asking, "Will I be next?"

The acquittal came at a time of nationwide tension among police and black citizens punctuated by protests over deaths of black suspects at the hands of white officers ? and following a determination by the U.S. Department of Justice that Cleveland police had a history of using excessive force and violating civil rights.

Before issuing his verdict, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge John P. O'Donnell reflected on the unrest. "In many American places people are angry with, mistrusting and fearful of the police," he said. "Citizens think the men and women sworn to protect and serve have violated that oath or never meant it in the first place."

But O'Donnell said he would not offer up Brelo to an angry public if the evidence did not merit a conviction.

"I will not sacrifice him to a public frustrated by historical mistreatment at the hands of other officers," O'Donnell said.
Brelo ? who fired a total of 49 shots, including 15 while standing on the hood of the suspects' vehicle ? faced as many as 22 years in prison had the judge convicted him of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting that happened after Timothy Russell's beat-up Chevy Malibu backfired while speeding by police headquarters.

...
The unusual timing of the verdict ? a Saturday morning on a holiday weekend ? was intentional. The county's top judge said it was meant to prevent traffic issues downtown

people like you run on emotion, not facts and the core of any argument you make typically revolves around incomplete facts, assumptions and distortions of the truth. At the end of the day, 2 people took police on a what? ... a 22 minute high speed chase? How many people did they almost kill? How many cops did they try to run over? How many... how much etc etc etc? You have no fucking idea because you don't care about actual facts. In your mind, 13 officers shot them "just because"

And what a fucking shock... the "100% innocent guy" had a massive police record which included 4 robbery convictions.... i'm sure he was just minding his own business and din do nuffins.

Did they deserve to die? Well, i think the courts answered that AFTER HEARING TESTIMONY OF WITNESSES AND THE DEFENDANT AND BEING PRESENTED WITH ALL THE EVIDENCE AND FACTS OF THE CASE AND HEARING BOTH SIDES FULLY ARGUED. If you are going to go on a rampage with your vehicle for 22 minutes, putting countless lives at risk and are threatening the plow through large crowds on the street, attempt to run over police etc etc etc etc etc etc etc... you kinda gotta expect at some point that police are going to be backed into a corner and have to stop you in the interest of public safety. If there were a way to just throw pillows at career felons to make them stop and it worked, i'm sure everyone on this planet would agree that's a much better method. But in this world, police have to react quickly, based on a fluid and changing situation and know they are dealing with an asshole that doesn't care about hurting others.

Am I saying they deserve to die or defending the officers. No, i'm not you. I'd need to look at and weigh all the facts behind "the officers shot them" to assess the facts and have an informed opinion and personally, i don't give a fuck enough about a career criminal that got shot by 13 police officers after a 20 minute police chase to look into it.

I'm reading a fascinating book called "The Last Narco." It is about the rise to power of El Chapo, Mexico's biggest and most notorious drug lord. The book covers the history of the drug trade and it is interesting to see how the US war on drugs basically caused all the violence and crime in Mexico surrounding the drug trade.

This whole thing really jumped off about 2 weeks before Easter, when the Cartel ambushed the Police on the highway between Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. 18 cops killed. Many more wounded. That then set the May 1st plan in place, which resulted in the Helicopter being shot down. And included the Cartel responding by setting buses and trucks on fire at 29 arteries of travel on the holiday weekend in and around Guadalajara. Also setting many gas stations and banks on fire in GDL and Puerto Vallarta.

The ranch raid is just the next step in the increased pace of the Military to regain the upper hand.

Will be some more firefights to come I'd imagine soon.

You know, the funny part for me personally is that I actually sympathize with Serbia for the most part. I mean, you guys really did get screwed over in Kosovo. The proof is indeed on the ground today. And yes, Clinton was in fact wrong to allow the Albanians free reign therein. That too is a given.

Moreover, Serbia was entitled to some (very) small chunks of present day Croatia as well.

Thing is, assholes such as yourself will forever diminish the veracity of Serbia's cause.

And that too is a given.

No, you pick and choose facts based on your emotions and agenda. Armed or unarmed, car backfiring or not has aboutely nothing with a career felon taking 100 police officers on a high speed chase for 20+ minutes.

You willfully ignore all the Lives put at risk as they sped through traffic and crowded streets, the complete and total disregard for the safety of others, all the near misses, all the people almost killed and them almost running over officers.

You'd like to believe cops just walked up to an innocent person and shot him, but that's far from an honest representation of the full facts and circumstances.

You are incapable of intellectual honesty because you are driven by emotion, not the truth and not full weight of all the facts.

SuckOnThis 05-25-2015 02:03 PM

Moral of the story: If you've ever done anything wrong in your life better make sure your car doesn't backfire, otherwise people like TheSquealer will defend cops blasting 137 shots at you.

TheSquealer 05-25-2015 02:08 PM

Moral of the story... Don't become a career felon and don't take 100 police officers on a high speed chase putting countless lives in danger, including innocent children

I am not defending police. I am defending the facts and certain individuals desire to create a false narrative as usual. He probably shouldn't have been shot.... but he definitely did his part to escalate the situation to that point, including trying to run over police officers. They definitely weren't trying to diffuse the situation, put both hands out the window and drop the keys on the ground. They could have not acted like fucking idiots, knowin full well what the consequences are... but they chose to go the opposite direction and escalate the situation.

You are another one that is fully Incapable of being intellectually honest. He wasn't shot because his car backfired. That's a lie you are telling because like a troubled teen, you hate authority. And have no respect for authority figures.

Its actually mostly a collection of articles a journalist wrote over a several year period reporting on this story. I understand there are going to be biases in it and some facts that may not be accurate, but during the section of how the drug war started in Mexico he pretty much presents what happened and leaves you to decide how to feel about it.
