Reason #1: Package theft.

Also while traveling, you can have stuff shipped to most mail box style stores. It comes in kinda handy.

Also not everybody lives 10 miles from the pickup location. I always prefer to get stuff delivered to one of these locations because I am not at home during the day so it takes too much hassle to try to negotiate when I will be home for pickup etc (nobody leaves packages unattended, you must be present).
