The Science of Acupuncture

This is an amazing BBC documentary about acupuncture, an ancient Chinese therapy.

Acupuncture is a collection of procedures which involves the stimulation of points on the body using a variety of techniques, such as penetrating the skin with needles that are then manipulated manually or by electrical stimulation. It is one of the key components of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and is among the oldest healing practices in the world.

As part of the documentary, you will see an young women having an open heart surgery without any anesthetics, just acupuncture, a 2000 years old healing method. You will also see how it helps to treat migraines and many other conditions.Millions people have started believing that acupuncture works better than conventional medicine .This documentary explains about astonishing healing power of acupuncture and its booming market in western world.

Acupuncture has been debunked more times than can be counted. It's call The Placebo effect genius. But then again, you have no interest in facts or in any information that challenges your insane, rambling, paranoid, "they're all out to get us" bullshit.

Oh... yeah, i know... we all do... every study that has debunked acupuncture is part of a bigger conspiracy. We uhm... get it. But just for fun, i'll leave you with one published, peer reviewed study which was the first result from a simple google search, from all the morons at Harvard Medical School

Yeah, they have only been doing it for thousands of years, it must be fake. For the record, even auto insurance companies accept acupuncture as a legitimate form of treatment for soft tissue injuries.

people have been worshipping the sun for 1000s of years, treating illness (particularly the Chinese) by drinking mercury for 1000s of years etc etc . So what? People have been praying to a God and gods for 1000s of years. People for 1000s of years believe a guy rose from the dead and went to heaven with absolutely no evidence to support the claim other than a vague mention in a letter, yet they "feel his healing power" in their lives everyday.

I am talking about actual science and you use bizarre logic like "an insurance company says, 'if you want this, you'll have to pay for it' so therefore, it must be real".

Wear your helmet even when you're not riding. Please do this for us all.

The science is in... acupuncture has been studied to death and their are countless published, peer reviewed studies debunking acupuncture... which has no provable basis in anything real at all.

BTW... people ONLY know about acupuncture today because Chairman Mao brought it back as a way to appear to be sending 1000s of "doctors" to rural areas to treat people - requiring no real training/tools/medical equipment/medicines - i.e., it was super cheap, ... and it was necessary after whacking out nearly every educated person in the nation. It wasn't even popular in China at that time until he made it popular.

I don't know if acupuncture genuinely works or not - but I know a local practitioner caused a longer delay in correcting my sciatic nerve condition by claiming he could fix it with acupuncture.

Unknown to me at the time, I had all the classic symptoms of a pinched sciatic nerve - and the acupunturist claimed he could fix it with a few treatments. Obviously, it just got worse...to the point I finally went to my family doctor, had an MRI done - and had it properly fixed with back surgery.

Had the asshat been honest, he would've recognized the signs, admitted there was nothing he could do...and sent me immediately to my doctor. Instead, he milked the treatments and benefit payments and prolonged my chronic pain.

Consequently, it'll be a frosty day in hell before I ever consider acupuncture treatment for anything down the road.

It's a shame that you're delusional and paranoid with the persistent agenda of trying to prove everything is a conspiracy and didn't get around to researching the well studied and well researched facts of acupuncture

why research when you can just watch a youtube video??

TheSquealer 05-08-2015 06:29 AM

It's also funny when the best argument a person has is always someone else's argument that you "need to watch" :)

It's getting to the point that crazy people are getting too lazy to Invest any sincere effort in being crazy and just refer you to other crazy people that put a little effort into it.

It's a shame you prefer youtube videos over peer reviewed studies for your research.

If billions of people get relief from it and science proves that it's a placebo effect, what's the problem? Can't personally tolerate it?

I wanted to say something like this. I do not personally believe in it, but in Asia it is huge. I think it helps the mind power up and get through some things. Just because you are going through the actions of trying to fix something.

Is that the definition of the placebo effect?

Interestingly, there are numerous studies demonstrating that the efficacy of many medications has more to do with the placebo effect than the medication itself. There is something powerful that happens in the brain when you feel like you have "control" over that illness and like you said, your immune system and relevant functions, sort of "power up". This issue of "control" has all kinds of positive effects. For example, in nursing homes and hospices, there are studies showing that when you give people the options of choosing plants, decor, wall colors, schedules, tvs etc etc etc etc they tend to be a great deal healthier and live longer than people whose choices were made for them and where they had no control over their environment... even when they do nothing to exercise any control and make changes.

I agree that whether its the placebo effect or not, is irrelevant if it causes relief IN MOST CASES... particularly when it concerns pain relief. But personally, i think people carry it too far trying to cure an aggressive cancer by drawing dolphins or eating blueberries or whatever the shit and ignoring the basic science involved, as well as what are proven and effective treatment methods vs pipe dreams and wishful thinking. wehateporns M.O. is to try to convince everyone that anything thats conventional is a massive conspiracy by big pharma and greedy doctors... even though thats so obviously not the case and we continue to live longer and longer due to medical advances.
