They were pirating music and got caught. They were hiding behind the DMCA until their internal emails were given to the RIAA and found that the owners were re-uploading music as soon as it was taken down under false/shill accounts.

I did not agree with their practice but I have to say that the site was very well done and managed and I got to discover a lot of new artists that I had never heard of before.
Got me to buy their albums afterward.

yep. Seems that business model fails in mainstream. They should move to adult, steal everyones shit, make millions off of it, go legit, buy stupid webmasters they ripped off a beer and get their asses kissed by said webmasters.

Dang... I guess I'll have to deal with Spotify ads, or just pay the monthly or annually or whatever the fuck the fee is.

it was a pretty decent website

They gave the record companies everything, full control of the company, the site, the patents, the membership database. There is a chance the record companies will continue to run it, but as a paid service.
