Why do people steal mainstream shows and put on youtube?

Why do people steal mainstream shows and put them on youtube? They put the show or movie in a box to hide its signature. I don't see ads or links. Why do they do this? Are they gonna add the ads later or embed the show into another website? I don't get it.

A lot do it because it's not about money and they just want to share things. And some do it just for the hits because they like seeing big numbers under the videos they post.

Have to chuckle @ stealing = "just want to share" :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

More like: I want to steal from others who steal and make it seem like I did it. I will then rename, re-watermark, re-encode, re-post, re-tag, re-name again, etc. until I make $1 from 5 days work :thumbsup

But to stay on topic, many reasons including

"friendly piracy"
- simply wanting to share and/or street cred

profit-oriented
