The Republican whom don't let Boner pass sneaky bills..

At least there seems to be one Republican in Congress whom isn't a total dickhead..

Apparently it's a thing for Congress to pass votes while no one is looking and with very few people on the floor. They are called "voice" votes and there is never a record of whom voted on them. It's a easy way for the Speaker of the House to shove bills through which aren't popular or might be apposed. Better yet there is no record of who voted for it... "yey democracy".

When Boehner Tries to Sneak Bills by Congress, this Rep. Uses a '500-Yard Dash' to Stop Him | MRCTV

Quote:

Congressman Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has put an end to a number of bills that Boehner planned on sneaking past Congress – and his ingenious method involves a 500-yard dash.

Much to the chagrin of the American public, members of Congress rarely vote on the hundreds of bills that are passed per year.

Most Congressional bills are passed in a nearly empty chamber, and Massie explained to the Young Americans for Liberty at the University of Cincinnati, members of Congress like to use voice votes to pass unpopular bills.

There’s two reasons Congress loves the voice vote: the first is that because there’s no record of who voted, they can’t be held accountable when the bill passes.

The second reason is that Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) has sole discretion to decide if there is a “quorum” (218 congressmen) present in the room sufficient to take a voice vote. Massie says frequently there’s only ten congressmen present. All Boehner has to do is squint and say that there’s a quorum present and he may hold a voice vote.

As long as no one requests a recorded vote, Boehner is free to do this.

That’s where Massie’s 500-yard sprint comes in.

Massie says he’s discovered that "it’s about a 500-yard dash between my office and the floor of the House." So, when Boehner starts to do voice votes, Massie sprints to the House floor and demands a recorded vote. That means there has to be a real quorum: 218 live people on the record with their votes. Several unpopular bills have died as a result of Massie’s dash.

Passing bills without recording votes, and without Congressmen present, frustrates the democratic process, and “it happens way too often,” said Massie.

“It only takes one congressman to stand up and say ‘Mr. Speaker, I request a recorded vote’… and I’ve done that a lot,” Massie said, to laughter from the Young Americans for Liberty students.

edit.. title for grammar nazis.. "doesn't"

John Boehner is a sack of shit. You can take one look at his stupid dick-weed jerk off face and know that. It's in his dead eyes.

Did you read the article or watch the video on the accompanying page? It appears "most" votes passed by Congress are passed in this manner using voice votes. According to the rules they are supposed to have a "minimum" number of congressmen there to make the vote. According to this Congressman that almost never happens and the Speaker of the House can "pretend" there are enough people there and do the vote anyway.

There is no record of who voted, so if no one does what this guy does and stands up requesting a recorded vote then there is no way for anyone to prove otherwise.

I read the article, it didn't mention specific bills, just a process this guy is blocking. Seems to me it would be important to know what bills this guy is obstructing prior to concluding his blocking government makes sense.

I would say "any" bill which the minimum number of voters was not present qualifies..

For example? I'm just curious to see one example of a sneaky bill this guy blocked. I can't find one via google.

I don't think it matters what the bill was or is.. If they aren't following the rules by having enough members of Congress to vote on it then it clearly should be stopped. Obviously if "any" bill was stopped by this method it's very clear they were trying to sneak it through with out the proper number of votes.

If there is the proper amount of votes, then doing what this guy is doing would not stop the bill from being voted on. This guy is simply standing up and making the speaker follow the rules. The rules which make us a Democracy.

Who knows if the bills are bad by nature of if it's just a issue of Congressmen not doing their jobs and "showing up" for work..

dyna mo 04-25-2015 02:56 PM

yeah, i'm not buying it. that article is bullshit. voice voting is as old as the Constitution and if that article writer wants to be taken seriously, he'd cite examples of where this guy interferred and for what reason he thinks it's OK to block the legislative process simply because the author makes shit up like boehner skwints his eyes to see a quorum. i'm also not buying that most bills are passed in an empty chamber.

:)

dyna mo 04-25-2015 02:58 PM

moreover, Bills are part of the public record. if boehner was up to all this sneaky bill passing and this guy running up and down the hall to block them, we'd have all heard about this sneaky legislation and gaming the system by now.

So you think he is lying? If he's lying then why isn't anyone saying he is? Obviously it makes Boner look bad, so if this guy is lying why is no one rushing to discredit him? Also it's not just about the amount of people voting but forcing there to be a record of it.

I do not understand how Congress is able to operate like this. Every vote should be voted on by every Congressman or Congresswoman, no exceptions. It should be a requirement. Vote electronically or by snail mail, but either way votes shouldn't be counted until all of the votes are received.

I'm sick and tired of hearing that so and so was on a committee and only voted on three of twenty votes. If you miss a certain percentage of votes, you should be instantly removed from office.

I tend to agree with this.. There really is no excuse for them to not vote in this day and age of technology. There is any number of ways they could cast a vote while being out of Washington.

They could very easily have some sort of private networked system with video conferencing where they can be ID'd with face recognition software prior to sending a vote electronically.

There is really zero reason for this not to be the case.

Boner doesn't have to be sexual.

Quote:

boner
noun bon·er \ˈbō-nər\
Definition of BONER

1
: one that bones
2
: a clumsy or stupid mistake; also : howler 2
3
usually vulgar : an erect penis
And before you ask who the hell someone "who bones" is that isn't sexual:

Quote:

bone
verb
: to remove the bones from (a fish or meat)
bonedbon·ing
Full Definition of BONE

transitive verb
1
: to remove the bones from <bone a fish>
2
: to provide (a garment) with stays
3
: to rub (as a boot or baseball bat) with something hard (as a piece of bone) in order to smooth the surface
intransitive verb
: to study hard : grind <bone through medical school
In this case, boner could also be loosely connect to bonehead, but given the similarity to his real name, boner is substituted for bonehead.

Let's not forget that this guy named "Boner" was a part of our family television for years in the late 80s' early 90's:

Or we could just be calling him a dick.

These clowns in govt. are already pieces of garbage. The least they could do is show up for votes.

But I do think that any network can be hacked. And you know that would be target "number one" for every hacker in the world.

The reason they no longer allow cameras to record the votes is because several years back it became a big controversy that voting was like a game of whack a mole with just a few congressmen/women running around hitting as many yes or no buttons as they can in a short time because there were so few present to vote.

That was in Texas.. Not the US Congress and yes after it made news the result was not for Texas state gov to clean up it's act, but rather to block all filming and continue on as normal breaking their own state laws and voting for people not in the room.

You were preaching the other day about finding the right guys for the job.. While I'm sure this guy has "other" problems as most Tea Party members do.. At the very least he seems to be doing the right thing as far as the voting goes. How is it you instantly think that there is no possible way he might be doing it out of principle?

yes, he's lying. here's how i know. he's saying he, along with most of the house, doesn't vote on bills (which is bullshit) but when boehner "starts to do a voice vote", he runs to the floor and obstructs the process (which is more bullshit).

that certainly begs the question, "why the fuck weren't you there to participate to begin with? a vote to send arms to ukraine and the only thing that gets this guy to attend is a last minute heads-up that there's a sneaky vote on it, so he makes a mad scramble to block that. How does he know no one is attending the vote if he runs down at the last second and obstructs the lack of quorom sneakiness?

As I also have said over and over...a person doesn't get to any high level of govt. without already being corrupted. I don't believe for even one second that he was doing anything out of "principle".

Unless you count making sure that your agenda and cronies are getting a slice of the pie as "principle".

I think you are smart enough to know that there isn't always scheduled times for bills being voted on. These guys have more to do than just sit around idly waiting for someone to bring a vote to the floor.

By the way...you aren't gonna believe this shit...I just read in a magazine here in Vegas called "The Sunday" that when the state of Nevada made NV Energy a monopoly (like all utilities are in the country) they also pretty much made it illegal to get off the grid!

In 2001, they made an exception for any big business that uses more than 1 megawatt to be able to generate their own electricity.
Wynn Resorts has just filed for that so that they can run their resorts off of solar power.

NV Energy (owned by Warren Buffet) is screaming bloody murder and trying to stop that from happening! In other words, they are scared to death of losing all that money that is made from selling electricity.

The article further says that the state put a cap of 3% of residents who are allowed to have their own power generated by solar energy!

That is just total corruption and graft. Especially here in NV where we have so much sun every day that it makes perfect sense for everyone to be able to create their own energy.

That is what we get with govt. that has this kind of power over people...bureaucrats running our lives to make sure their cronies stay multi-billionaires. It's a disgrace.

THAT is their job. Spending all their time in perpetual campaign mode to raise money and traveling the world at taxpayer expense plus hookers and blow isn't what they are supposed to be doing.

They did the same in FL. If you try to remove your house from the power grid they will take away your certificate of occupancy. Meaning you can't legally live in a house which isn't hooked to the power grid regardless if you have electricity or not. This is thanks to Rick Scott and his beloved campaign financier Duke Energy..

I know you hate me saying this, but you don't see that shit happening in states which aren't Republican controlled. I've never said Democrats are perfect but by far they don't pull this kind of shit that harms individual tax payers like the right does at the state level.

This is why I'm so anti right wing, not because I hate Republicans in general, but because I see what they do with my own two eyes. Yes I'm sure corrupt democrats can fuck up cities like Detroit, but those are usually isolated at city level and not entire states. Republican governors around this country are fucking destroying this country at the state level.

You really don't think they report to the floor at 9am and leave at 5pm or that there are scheduled times in which random bills are brought up for a vote do you?

you're joking. i'm smart enough to know votes are most certainly scheduled. bills are most certainly not random. you think our government legislative timetable is based on boehner calling on bills to be voted on like ringing a bell for dinner? whenever it suits him?

come on now.

THAT is their job. Spending all their time in perpetual campaign mode to raise money and traveling the world at taxpayer expense plus hookers and blow isn't what they are supposed to be doing.

Matter of fact, they should be in their home states and Congress should only be in session when it's needed. Of course...they decided that we "need" them all the time. lol

I know it sounds like their job Robbie, but they also have to deal with their districts needs in their states. Think about it for a min.. It's impossible for them to be on the floor all the time.

I know we all like to joke and laugh that they only work 3 days a week or what ever it is.. but lets be real here. They are also dealing with stuff from their states and each congressmen has an average of 13 meetings a day. Think about that for a min.. Maybe a meeting is 5mins maybe it's 30 mins.. with 13 a day on average there are going to be all different types of meetings.

How long do you think it would take you to do 13 meetings a day and and then deal with what ever you needed to do to prepare for those meetings and or do what ever was requested at those meetings?

Then of course there is the fund raisers.. and lets not forget they are also supposed to read those 3 thousand page bills which they vote on..

again, the congressman is being duplicitous, his entire superman schtick hinges on him not participating in the traditional legislative process. think about it. it also hinged on the wild exclamation that most of the house does not vote, including this guy, when we know by a matter of the record that congressmen are only absent from voting ~10% of the time.

come on now.

You know I think that both parties are shit. And by the way...the laws on NV Energy were done during DEMOCRAT rule:

"After the Great Depression, the citizens of Nevada preferred the Democratic Party over the Republican Party. Democrats were well received by Nevada and won most of the statewide and federal races from 1932 until 1995."

And the last 3 Gov.'s of NV have been Republican. Before that...from 1983 to 1999 it was Democrat Gov.'s.
It pretty much goes back and forth between the two parties over the decades (good old 2 party system is what gets us this shit)

Just like in Florida (where I am from and where all my family is)...it's always a Democrat or a Republican govt.
If the Republicans are EVIL, then why after over a hundred years don't the Democrats CHANGE shit when they take office?
ANSWER: They don't. Both parties are feeding at the same trough of graft and corruption.

They might have schedules for bigger & or important bills but it's impossible to schedule each bill that is voted on. It's not how the system works..
