          He was a true badass.

          He did a seminar at my college in 1982. And the drummer for my rock band was also the drummer for the college jazz band.

          He and all the drummers in town went to see, meet, and talk to Buddy Rich.

          Buddy told them that the secret to getting a great sound on their cymbals was to put them in the freezer for 24 hours.

          Like a dumbass, my drummer did that. And of course he had about $2,000 worth of Zildjan cymbals cracked when he took them out.

          Buddy Rich was one of the greatest drummers of the 20th century (Gene Krupa is my favorite though), but he didn't mind being a bit of an asshole too. lol

                      This is pretty wild timing. I just watched Whiplash which is a great movie all about an aspiring jazz drummer and Buddy Rich is mentioned throughout it.
