Windows 8.1 is the worst crap ever!

What are Microsoft executives thinking??

This is less than intuitive, I'm having trouble even adding a printer.

I bought a new laptop and I'm about to get rid of this piece of shit and install Windows 7 again.

This is stupendously stupid.

420 03-24-2015 09:18 AM

I've reverted to 3.1

woo lemmings is fun

michael.kickass 03-24-2015 09:20 AM

And this is 8.1 so it's an update.

A zillion clicks just open the Control Panel. Unbelievable.

MrBottomTooth 03-24-2015 09:32 AM

Install classic shell. Its unusable without it.

dyna mo 03-24-2015 09:41 AM

do yourself a huge fucking favor and install w7.

Tom-LifeSelector 03-24-2015 10:15 AM

Harmon 03-24-2015 10:17 AM

Not having an issue with it and it even grabbed my old laser jet right off the bat. Seems ok to me and doesn't seem to be hogging up system resources. *shrugs*

Yep, I'm leaning towards this.

I hate it that throughout the years Microsoft has always tried to separate the user from the system.

This shit reminds me of Windows Millenium.

I've never had issues with Windows 8 even prior to the 8.1 upgrade. I use it as is and without classic shell. It's not hard to figure out and it's not any harder to use once you've spent more than 10 minutes using it.

Va2k 03-24-2015 11:30 AM

WOW thank god I have never had any problems with it. If you were the only one saying this I would call you a little bitch, but I have heard this from a LOT of folks and folks that know how to run a pc at that. Fingers cross my 8.1 still cont's to go good.

Once you start using it, you might like it. I hated it at first too, now I love it.

Windows 8 is really for tablets and laptops. I have it on my Surface Pro 3 and it's great because I flip from Tablet to PC instantly.

We have it on a few laptops, and we use classic shell or something similar and it's just like Win7.

It's really rather easy once you adjust a few things.
  1. Configure your PC to Boot to the Desktop
  2. Use the Windows Key on your keyboard to toggle between desktop and your Apps / Programs Screen
  3. When on the Apps Screen, click and delete anything you don't want. Then create groupings of items you want easily accessible. There's a down arrow key on the main Apps screen... click that and you can see all of the programs on your computer. Click the ones you want and select "Pin to Start". Then go back to the main pass Start screen and you can group them anyway you like.
  4. Right Click on the Start Button and you will get quick access to a bunch of stuff, like the Control Panel, OR, you can simply Press the Windows Key and the X key together.
  5. Of course, you can always add shortcuts to the programs you want to your quick launch bar or the Desktop screen itself as well.

Good luck. It looks different, but is really rather efficient once you take advantage of it, especially if you use multiple monitors (if so, you'll undoubtedly appreciate the native independent taskbars.... that feature alone improves productivity over any previous Windows Desktop version for me).

The massive time that keeps popping up is worst bit.

Matyko 03-24-2015 12:22 PM

Classic Shell and all is good

Axeman 03-24-2015 12:35 PM

Classic Shell makes it pretty solid. That said, I still downgraded back to Win 7. I might upgrade to Win10 if its good.
