|

|
[Labret] has a serval... pretty cool
|
I had a hawk for a couple of years, but I didn't buy it. I think it's illegal to sell such birds, not sure.
|
I always wanted a chimpanzee, one who smoked a cigar and you could dress up in clothes.
actually, it's a bad idea to have an exotic animal as a pet, not fair to the animal unless you have millions and can build them at least as good an enclosure as a modern zoo plus have some company for him/her. there are people who buy monkeys, and i've heard they are a nightmare. |

figures i'd pick the most expensive one :(
from the website: <b>Baby Chimps: $50,000.00 males $55,000.00 females</b> imagine how cute a baby chimp is, could have him for a year then sell him to a zoo but then again that would be cruel taking an animal who has lived in luxury with humans and suddenly he's put into a big cage full of older chimpanzees. nope, not a good idea. |
imagine the chimpanzee taking a shit in your kitchen or in your bedroom....i'll pass
|
animals are chick magnets............ and young chicks more than older ones.
if a dog can do that imagine how many women will stop to make a fuss if your walking down the street with a chimp dressed in a Little Lord Fauntleroy outfit smoking a cigar!!! |

yeah shit is one of the problems with a chimpanzee but they do wear diapers and i don't think it's impossible to toilet train them but i think it's a tough task.
they are very strong and tempermental, they would destroy everything you have. |
this site has everything, even a Bush baby
Greater Bushbaby: 5 weeks old, male 2800.00 |

im wondering if they can become aggressive through time.
Weight 88-132 pounds an 130pounds Chimpanzee is fucking strong, if it decides to get ride of you, won't be a problem hehe |
none. if they're not domesticated they don't belong in your house imho
all kinds of evil associated with the exotic animal business, I wouldn't support it. |

My neighbor looked into a serval here and found that they are against the law to own in most of Washington state unless you have a certain kind of license (same goes with most non-domestic animals). Recently two 'pet' servals got loose somehow from their home and now they're stuck at the zoo, sequestered away from the other 'more feral' cats. The zoo doesn't know what they are going to do with them. If the owner is found, he'll be find and possibly jailed.
It goes for most other animals too.. I'm not picking on servals mind you. I own pixie bobs which are part (very dilute) bobcat. The exotic animal trade is much the way the old exotic bird trade used to be. People would buy new to the country just caught exotic birds (Macaws, Parrots, etc). I've seen documentaries and read articles about how these birds are lured in mass, captured and transported. How many of them died in the process.. all in the name of the almighty $. The US finally made their import illegal. It cut alot of the market in a hurry. Never by any sort of exotic animal unless you have some facts on the seller and the history of the animal. |
Not an exotic, but I want to get another ferret when we eventually get a bigger house. Had one who died of old age (he was almost 7) a few years ago. Those little fuckers are a trip. :1orglaugh We had a hardwood floor, and he'd start running, get going pretty good, then his back feet would get ahead of his front and he'd jackknife like a crashing semi, slide all over the place in a little ball of fur and feet. He also liked to swim in the toilet...needless to say we kept the lid down all the time.

Usually acquired while they are easily managed infants, exotic animals eventually exert their natural behaviors of biting, spitting, hissing, and attacking.
In 1999, PAWS helped find sanctuary for an African serval after the 40lb. cat bit the Washington family?s young daughter. A four-year-old boy had his arm torn off by a ?pet? tiger at his uncle?s home in Texas this past spring. Also earlier this year, a Chicago woman spent eight days in the hospital after her seven-year-old Great Java macaque attacked her. The woman?s dog had been attacked months earlier and required surgery for the wounds. The monkey was killed so that his brain tissue could be tested for rabies and other diseases. In 1999, an Illinois family?s pet python strangled to death their 3 year-old boy. --------- http://www.paws.org/work/factsheet/a...xoticpets.html |

I have an African Grey, and while some of you may not consider her an exotic animal, she is. She even has a control band on her foot.
My wife bought her, because she whisteled at her when she walked by in the pet store. the owner took the bird out, and she got right on my wifes hand. 1000$ bucks later, we can not have anything in the house that is made of wood, because the bird likes to tear it to pieces. the first thing she destroyed was the headboard to our bed. 2k then the took the keyboard off of one of the laptops. 1.5k and then she did a nice bet of damage to a night stand. 300$ Ahe has destroyed 2 leather office chairs 600$ and the list goes on and on. it is not that we allow her to do this. You turn you back, answer the phone in the other room, or even take a piss, and she is destroying something when you get back. If you lock her in a cage, she will go crazy, and pull all her feathers out, and evewntually die. they are social and need to be held, and played with. |
Not to sound holier-than-thou, but if you really cared about animals AT ALL, you wouldn't support the exotic animal trade. And if you don't care about animals, you shouldn't burden yourself with one. It's not going to work out well for either of you.
