Deal or No Deal: 100 mbs for $1000

http://www.cogentco.com/

Good news: peering now with recently acquired PSInet, added reliability

Bad news: stock is on life support. still hemmorhaging cash. not exactly stellar brand association. Historical reliability issues [run a search on this board].....

BUT the price sure seems attractive. dayum! around 2cents a gig.

VIDEO site anyone? At that price, maybe run whole free 5 minute free samples. [~50 MB a pop] HOTLINKABLE too, [and set it to autoplay] lol.

Tempting....

I doubt it's possible to push a true 100mbps through the connection, even temporarily.

If you use your 100mbits for commercial use I believe the cost is $3000, unless you buy 1gig

$10 a megabit is for user (inbound) traffic, not for server (outbound) traffic. Outbound is $30 like Jay said, and everyone knows what it's worth.

Yeah, you're right http://www.cogentco.com/100mbps.html that's the ISP LAN service... at 30$ it doesn't look as promising given the considerations spelled out above.

Actually price remains the same $3k for 100 or $30k for 1000. Not really a good deal for what you are getting. The $1k deal is for offices/schools that need an internet connection. Not a bad deal for surfing but not too good for webhosting.

Bastards should put a big ASTERISK next to the 100mbs for $1000 graphic on their homepage.

Yeah if you want to use Cogent for hosting it's 3000 per month. I had my own demarc for 1 full year and was lucky my 1 year contract was over a little bit after AOL dropped their peering.

My connection was actually pretty solid but latency was always about 90ms - 100 ms

I think they ended up paying for AOL peering but it was a big mess for a few weeks.
