What is your Best of Adult 2014 and 2015 Predictions!

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year to all of you.

As 2014 comes to a close I was wondering what you thought was the Best of Adult in 2014. Which companies, sites, performers did the most remarkable things? Which companies/sites are the most current with where the web is right now?

Who are the big companies/sites/performers you expect to do well in 2015?

Any other 2015 predictions for the industry?

I'd love to hear your thoughts :) Could make for a good discussion as well as a nice reference for you to look back on in the future ;)

Ok... My prediction is as follows...

In 2015 affilates will be allowed to put 4 times 15 second video clips on their galleries or 16 photos (but no cumshots).

Come to think of it... those were my predictions for 2005! :Oh crap

With the growing popularity of streaming media, and the availability of adult content on places like Roku, I think we're likely going to continue to see a trend away from traditional markets and transitioning more and more to the home user via their various streaming media devices.

Further, I think it's just a matter of time before cam shows are available through services like Roku.

That also opens up the door to Paypal processing from the convenience of the customer's living room, click and watch right on their big screen TV. With SmartTV's also becoming commonplace, cam-to-cam options may also be a selling point.

I also think Dating sites will show up on such services.

Ultimately, I think any affiliate not thinking towards the future and how to evolve their business models are going to be further in trouble. Tubes, file lockers, etc won't be anything compared to the ability of producers to create their own online channels and arrange licensing agreements with streaming TV services.

Do companies still limit the length of videos to be used on galleries? I personally believe any restrictions of any time limit <4 minutes is crazy. 2015 get your content out there and promote the hell out of it.

Interesting thoughts. The question is are mainstream companies open to that? Feels like over the past 5 years instead of becoming more open to porn mainstream has turned its back on it even more. Thoughts?

Netflix has effectively legitimized streaming as a valid option for people who want an option against network cable. Roku has come along and serves as an aggregator of channels through a single interface. And yes, there are adult channels available on Roku.

Roku Adult » Roku Adult Channels

Now, while Roku does not officially list these channels, it is easy enough to add them. And that includes options to pay for the channel's subscription.

People have been conditioned by smartphones that $4.99 is a good price to pay for every little thing. Online adult channel subscriptions would likely follow suit if they were smart. Smart affiliates would work with producers to advertise their new streaming media channels. Even smarter affiliates would find a program and sell the Roku players as well, not to mention the HDMI cables :)

Frankly, I think the big winners will be the dating and cam sector. Once they get onto a streaming mainstream platform (since no sex is show on the free side), I think they'll make bank.

There will be modest changes, but aside from an unpredictable "blue ocean" surprising everyone, everything will remain relatively the same....and that is disappointing.

I predicted the rise of mobile devices would force small/medium-sized companies to adopt platform agnostic strategies with their websites, but my prediction proved incorrect. In 2011 when I was still working for you Sean, the mobile traffic to your tube sites was eclipsing desktop. It's 2015, and program owners - who use their smartphones for everything - still ask me if they should make their website mobile.

I did a panel in September at the Prague Summit regarding content. My argument was to treat content like the music industry - music has gone down in quality. Production costs are far lower, and time-to-market is faster. It's all about the packaging and the promotion (as you have stressed in this thread). It dismayed me the number of questions fielded by owners, not producers, regarding the production and artistic elements of content, as if these are the most important elements to saving their struggling sales and churn rates.

My predictions:

- large content players like Mindgeek will mostly remain unchanged and dominate
- small/medium content players will keep slowly dying as peers cannibalize each other.
- small/medium will continue to partner with each other, but instead of looking for peers with expertise in areas that they lacked (and acquiring that expertise could help them expand and grow), they will just find partners to make modest improvements in efficiency.
- dating sites will get a little bigger and a little better
- cam sites will get a little bigger and a little better

Now that you can take a more third-person view of the industry, what are some of your predictions Sean?

Nothing will change in 2015 except smaller companies will continue to go out of business while mid-size companies become larger and large companies consolidate.

Just take a look at the Muisc Industry for an example of where porn is likely to end up. In fact, Adult is just about there.

So: in the end there will be 5-6 major players doing what they have always done. The only thing that has changed is that now smaller companies find it impossible to grow to "large" status.

Have fun everyone and good luck!!

(I was typing this as the above post was being written but basically the same predictions.)
