If you replace the word "Russian" with "American" and tell people the guy was a "terrorist", then many right wingers think that it's perfectly fine to torture and blow him up. Just read the threads here on GFY for proof of that. No trial needed, the government always knows what's right.

Logic? I'm telling you what right wingers are saying. How many right wingers have said that they believe in torture as a valid way of getting information from terrorists? Many.

Are you going to re-write history now?

If it's acceptable for Americans, why isn't it acceptable for Russians?

Sad but true. Foucault was right--words create reality as much as vice versea.

Because with us we use it as a last resort. With most other nations it is standard procedure.

This is by no means indicating that Russians or anyone else is evil. I can only nightmare about what the circumstances of such torture were.

However, Americans are really torn over this issue. I doubt the Russian troops are similar. Keep in mind that the KGB was the most successful intelligence agency in the world because they did business with very unpleasant people. Remember that this permeated all levels of the old Soviet Union, thus it became part of Russian society and was accepted. The CIA is ineffective because our policy is not to do business with such characters. Remember that the CIA not too long ago eliminated about 1/3 rd of their field agents because they were one's with 'questionable' backgrounds.
