I dunno, I left Ontario in 1989 and it was pretty prosperous from everything I remember. Then Bob Rae's NDP got elected the following year, in 1990 if I recall... and the Ontario economy went to shit.

I'm not sure Ontario has ever recovered from the NDP experiment.

As for Harper, I don't think it comes as a surprise to anyone here that he is viewed as a US puppet. What's scarier to me is the alternative is Justin Trudeau. It's a no win situation here for the next Federal Election.

The reason Ontario is no longer leading economically is because Alberta (with it's oil) has now taken that spot.

And just because you site a couple of horrible Liberal decisions doesn't mean that you are correct in your assumption on the economic condition of Ontario.

There are TONS of local and international factors that go into the making of the state of any economy. Bashing or praising any one party is inaccurate at best.

actually there were a lot of cuts in the early 90's to get that initial surplus.

Canada would have done fine no matter who was in power. It had nothing to do with Harper. It had plenty to do with our banking system in general and their limited positions in the mortgage security financial instruments.

After the economic meltdown many countries around the world were hit and it had nothing to do with a left or right government.

As you can see the meltdown hit Ontario's manufacturing sector hard which is the 'engine' of the province's economy. The wasteful spending only contributed a small % of the debt and in the 1990's, conservative measures actually helped increase debt too.

And, after all this I am not even saying that the Liberal party is better than the conservative one or did well under Dalton McGuinty.

I am saying that you can't give credit or blame any one government in isolation for the economic situation.

Under the micro-FIT program they pay $0.80/KWH when the avg price for hydro is $0.12. A number of people in my neck of the woods installed panels on their roofs. For an initial investment of roughly $75k, they expect to recoup in about 6-7 years. I also have wind farms about 30 mins away, I comment every time I drive by them that of the 20-30 I see, maybe 2 or 3 are actually turning.

I agree with much of what you say. But again I don't think that the 'green drive' is solely or even MAINLY responsible for the debt.

I will agree a hundred times over that the Liberals have made bad decisions. I actually hated Dalton McGuinty.

What I won't do is hate one party or endorse another based on the economy alone.

It is no secret that I prefer Liberals over Conservatives but that doesn't mean I like the Libs. It just means they are the lesser of 2 evils and so yes they will do a lot of things that piss me off. Their energy policy is one of them. It's a matter of who pisses me off less.

Economy in Canada will be fine real estate bubble blows up, or hopefully deflates.
