Offshore European Hosting

What do you guys think of offshore hosting?
If you could get the same deal as in the US - but better legislation, 24/7 customer service, super bandwidth in a state-of-the-art datacenter - would you do it?

Spammers welcome? Not that it matters to me ;)

But yeah i'd go for it. A s h c r o f t can't get you in europe..... Yet.....

Machete_ 03-13-2003 10:29 AM

Hej Mia - stik mig en prisliste på jeres ydelser, så kan det være jeg er interesseret.
Jeg har lige købt 4 nye enclosure fra EET til mit overvågnings project, og har brug for seriøse server huller

That's true :-) Spammers are not welcome unfortunately. Denmark has a strict policy on spamming - the good thing is - we won't close down cause other clients spam :-)

So, what would it take to get you as a client?

All the best,
Mia

Kan du give mig nogle specifikationer? Hvor meget harddisk, ram, båndbredde, rack-space osv.? Hvis du har det - kan jeg give dig et meget mere specifikt quote.

Det ville være totalt fedt ;-)

Mange hilsener
Mia

Same logic holds for Chinese servers. Actually, a growing % of all spam sent is now origination from .cn

MiaSimonsen 03-13-2003 10:35 AM

really??! I didn't know that.... I guess when the USD is up then nothing's impossible huh? haha... So, what does it take to get you as a client? At least for your European traffic?? hehe...

thanks - but do you think they have good connectivity from that Island? British Isles are usually known for their legal status, in terms of hosting gaming. But we can host that too from DK - and have much better connectivity I think :-)

What do you think?

Thanks for your time, I really appreciate it :-)

COMMON you guys!! There's got to be more opions out there... I really would like to know. Anyone?

TheJimmy 03-13-2003 11:21 AM

If an offshore host provides the same service, speed and pricing I think it'd be a no brainer that a large group of people would jump on that wagon and move their hosting offshore.

Personally I know I would, I only have 2 boxes in the US currently and within the next 6-9 months plan on having everything 100% out of the US from a hosting and legal entity standpoint...

avoiding the rush at the last minute is my thoughts on it...

That sounds great! I sort of get the same from most larger adult companies - however, I have no idea what the medium sized think. When you're interested, please let me know. You can always e-mail me at [email protected] - I will make sure you get a good deal. I appreciate the honest serious response :-)

All the best,
Mia

I will Mia for sure, count on it.

I've had hosting on a friends box a very long time ago in .dk and I was amazed that the speed was so good, coming from such a long distance away from where I'm at...

.dk must have some good pipe for sure

:thumbsup :thumbsup

Actually, Sealand is not part of Britian. Its an independant country, located on an ex-British WWII anti-aircraft platform in the English channel.

As for the quality of HavenCo's bandwidth, I really can't comment. I don't host there, nor do I know of any sites hosting there. I've heard it costs an arm and a leg though.

The main selling point of HavenCo, is their very lax Acceptable Use policy: no spam, no kiddie porn, and no hacking. Other than that anything goes.

The other reason to host there is best taken from their website:
Quote:

Service includes 24x7 Network Operations Center monitoring, security monitoring of your server, a private web page from which you can manage your server's disk image, perform remote reboots, and view realtime bandwidth use, redundant power, cooling, and unmatched security, including 12" thick concrete walls, 24x7 armed security, and miles of empty sea between you and any threat.

Well, we can handle mailings - but we don't accept spam. It's sort of a: commit to 1 mbit per month - you can have 1 complaint a day etc.

But actual spam - and we have to pass on the person to another hosting company ;-(

Cool. But, if you do have to pass them on to another hosting company, you know where to send them. :winkwink:

$0.80 a GB? I'm not sure who's paying those prices for "larger" accounts. We have 5 dedicated boxes and we're paying much much less than that. Think more than 50% less.

If you're serious about looking for real business, you're going to have to do better than that.

Well, it kind of also depends on what bandwidth you buy? I don't know how you pay for your hosting 95%-tile, flatfee, non-burstable, crap bandwidth etc. and what carriers you get for your money. We offer redundancy, major carriers, small latencies into the US, and some of the best latencies in Europe. We don't shave people's traffic, which is why we might be a little more expensive. But everyone get's exactly what they signed up for. Also, Europe as you might now - is more expensive in terms of hosting than the US.

p.s. would love to hear what you pay and what you get for your money. I am always trying to improve on our offers.

If you have time, please mail me at [email protected]

Thanks, I really appreciate the info.

MiaSimonsen 03-13-2003 01:30 PM

what are the rest of you paying per Gb?

JohnnyUtah 03-13-2003 03:14 PM

Not being in the US...
We probably have the best price in Canada...
As low as .40 cents per gig.

That's very good - and still North American prices :-)

Legally Denmark is still more open though... However, definately like the idea of Canada too.

Mia, your right... but in Canada, those prices are just unreal.
Most big providers here ask anywhere from 2 to 7$ per gig!
Wich is just not possible for adult hosting.
