was good ?

Still can't understand how you guys (especially the Americans) can eat turkey. It smells... nasty. There is only one member in my family who loves it - our cat :) The non-vegetarian part of the family prefers roasted, grilled or braised chicken (frayed food is too unhealthy even for my digestion of an ostrich... :))

LeRoy 11-06-2014 07:40 AM

Looks juicy and crispy on the outside too!! Nice job Sly :)

pornguy 11-06-2014 07:53 AM

FOr some reason I prefer them smoked.

Ok that was just so wrong - you scared me to death. lol

But the bird looks awesome, so you get a pass... I'd love to try this, but I am terrified of burning my house down doing it. lol

I feel like you could actually do both. Smoke it for about an hour or two (or longer depending) on a low temp and then fry it to finish it. Need to smoke it long enough to permeate the smoke inside and then a quick fry to crisp the outside
Just like with ribs etc, smoke them for a while and then finish on high heat to caramelize it

And uh maybe experiment with a chicken first for a cheaper and smaller bird

BTW, if I'd lived in Texas as the OP, I'd eat Angus steaks every single day, and no frickin' birds! :thumbsup

How do you fry the whole chicken/turkey? I mean only tiny part of it is in the oil, looks like still roasting with oil :winkwink: I mean the whole bird is too big to merely fry it, some roasting should be involved as well..

And I agree - what is the point of frying when you can roast? :)

Choopa Phil 11-06-2014 08:48 AM

Awesome you got to do it in the house. I remember our outdoor fryer makings a pretty decent amount of smoke/fry smell. Was this the case for the indoor cooker? Great looking bird!

Manfap 11-06-2014 08:51 AM

9 beans! You need more veg.

Not sure what you are talking about. The whole bird goes in the oil.

He's barely able to tie his shoes, likely, I wouldn't sweat "understanding" him.

I don't eat frayed products at all (I mean something, cooked in boiling oil) :2 cents:

Don't think so. I believe that a good steak is a rather healthy product. It's not as fat as a pork and it's not being cooked in oil. The best steaks I ate in my life were in Dallas, TX :2 cents:

You mean you use like few liters of oil just to cook one bird? I am not surprised I did not understand this as I never imagined people do that :helpme:1orglaugh

Pork is now very lean. And cooking in oil does not mean death. The oil stays on the outside, on the skin. It does not get inside the item.

It's reused. What do you think they do with oil at any restaurant?

So much judgment from a few guys that obviously know little about food. You are absolutely right. :1orglaugh

I honestly did not see, hear or imagine somebody drowning the whole bird in the oil. So that was where my surprise came from. Different cultures maybe.

And no judgment, just lol at "oil stays outside of the item". Not sure if serious or trolling with this one :winkwink:

Actually I am quite fond of cooking and even read some blogs, recipes quite often.
Like I said it must be different cultures, honestly never heard or imagined somebody would cook a bird this way...
