...if I am not mistaken you live in or close to Portland. To your knowledge is anyone going around trying to encourage Dems to get out and vote. Most in the media keep saying that ...historically...Democrats have a low turn out for mid term elections and this is one reason the Republicans are polling so well.

I live just outside of Portland. I too have already voted. Aside from seeing a lot of political ads on TV I haven't seen a lot of "get out the vote" type of efforts. That said there was one thing I came across about 3 weeks ago. A woman knocked on my door that was running for a state senate seat and wanted to tell me about herself. After we talked for a few minutes she gave me some info and told me that if I needed any help voting to call them so I assume they would come out and get my ballot then take it to a ballot drop.

Aside from that I haven't seen any big get out the vote campaigns. I would think the democrats would be hitting places like Portland and Eugene hard because they will need a big turn out with the younger vote in order to pass the legalizing pot measure.

Someone did bring a flyer to my house asking me to vote for Chris Boice for County Commissioner. Other than that...nada. I can't even recall a TV commercial calling for Dems to vote.

I think some of it is that Merkley is in no danger of losing his senate seat and Kitzhaber has been out in front in the polls for governor so I think our state really hasn't been a big focal point since the two big races are likely not going to be very close.

Your reasoning is as good as any. I would like to see the entire country have the same system Oregon has for voting.

I agree. It is easy, gives you plenty of time to vote, encourages turnout and reduces potential fraud.
