Tied it all together nicely. Not exactly perfectly, but nicely.

"The war's over, the other side won."

His wifey in NYC lived out her days as a rich woman I guess. He had a couple of mill at the end, I know he also left a lot in trust to you-know-who in the mental ward too though.

Was just relieved to see the black doctor finally get what was coming to him.

bronco67 10-27-2014 08:41 AM

I'm glad they focused on the characters and not have a bunch of gunfights. One of my favorite series finale ever.

Feng-PD 10-27-2014 08:45 AM

wauw that was awesome... just sad the series ended :(

Axeman 10-27-2014 10:28 AM

Bored me to tears. First 3 seasons were excellent though.

Jim_Gunn 10-27-2014 11:45 AM

I thought it was a great finale. The looks back in time to Nucky's childhood and young adulthood tied together nicely as did Gillian's story. Nucky's original sin of pimping thirteen year old Gillian out to the Commodore finally caught up with him.

It's interesting that the real life Enoch "Nucky" Johnson who Steve Buscemi's character is based on was investigated and eventually arrested in the '30s and served four years of a ten year prison sentence for tax evasion in the 40's, finally living until the ripe old age of 85 and passing away of natural causes in 1968. Of the main historical characters in the series, only the much younger Meyer Lansky outlived him.

i preferred the violence in the seasons before...

A lot of posts in this thread show that the show is mostly smarter than it's audience. Same with the Sopranos.

mineistaken 10-27-2014 03:32 PM

Great ending, I will miss the show.

I thought that was a very good ending and I usually hate things that start telling the story with flashbacks to the past.

It means people watch it for all the "gangster shit", but a lot of the character development and subtext goes over their heads.

The guy who played young Nucky did a fantastic job, and that season long buildup to his decision to get ahead by sacrificing Jilian made the ending some real poetic justice. His character needed to die, and I can't even believe I felt sympathy for Jillian by the end, because she was easy to hate throughout the whole series.

Mark Pickering was amazing as young Deputy Nucky. He got all of Steve Buscemi's mannerisms down perfectly. All the other young versions of the established characters were well cast as well. The guy who played the younger Commodore did an amazing impression of Dabney Coleman's voice, and the girl who played the teenage Gillian looked so much like Gretchen Mol. Even some of the peripheral characters young versions were amazing like Nucky's brother Eli and whoever it was that played the younger version of Dominic Chianese's (Uncle Junior from The Sopranos) character Leander Whitlock.

This is dead on, thought they were all amazing in the younger version roles.

Overall disappointed in the season, Having Tommy off Nucky was excellent, poetic justice, my issue with it is all the back stories were too fragmented. Characters pretty much all got what they deserved, it just felt slapped together, like the writers were thrown into a room and told last minute, OK wrap it up.

This was actually groundbreaking, and it was a cool experiment to see flashbacks with actors who were carefully chosen and groomed to play the younger versions of well known characters. I'd say it worked like a motherfucker. But I know every production can't go those lengths.

At least they stuck with history with Al Capone, Luciano and Lansky.
