Likely the Catholic church did - just like they incorporated mistletoe and a christmas tree into the picture. How many pine trees and mistletoe have you seen in Israel?

Those two things are part of the pagan culture/religion they tried to get rid of - they couldnt beat them so they took it over. There are tons of history books and sites about this.

Also Jesus was from one of the darker skinned tribes of Israel (12 original jewish tribes) - so he was certainly a dark skinned, dark curly haired guy not a blond blue eyed northern european.

If you do some research you will see that the English version of the Bible suffers a huge translation problem from the original hewbrew scrolls.....but this is pretty common stuff. Lets take a look at our mainstream news feeds: how much is real and how much is "translation".

I saw this on "Mysteries of the bible" on A&E

a few centuries ago... 1500-1600's around then a group of men were given the task of finding out when jesus's b-day was..
they couldn't find it. At the time they had a different holiday on the 25th of dec that was a hebrew holiday of some kind and was going to be removed by whoever was in power at the time.... they couldn't find the actuall date of christ's birth so they made it dec 25th so they could keep their holiday
