Mainstream webmasters how did you get back from update

How did you turn around if you were hit by the google update that had a big impact on links going to your website even those that were "legit" before the update - like press releases and some blogs and other that I call white hat link campaigns?

For instance when it comes to press release links, they are not useless but it's all about how you anchor the link. No stupid SEO forcing keywords but rather the company name.

That's one thing I can do and fix all those PR anchors to a more friendly version.

I get on a regular basis emails asking me to remove links that were spammed on my own site, some seems legit but I completely ignore those going to my whois.

So people seem concerned of how they get links nowadays.

My main question is, would you start disavowing links in order to get back or would you do something different with these links ?

Suggestions, comments ?

Thanks

Google says to disavow bad links so I would starting with the garbage 1st. I would not do a wholesale disavow campaign.

Fuck google.

Build quality sites with quality content , get quality 1way links whenever u can and leave it at that. In dont do any specific inlink campaigns and have ton of se traffic and never been hitother than the usual shuffle

I dont wamt to fight google so always stayed white hat all the way and it worked out well thru all the updates.

How do you know your press release link was bad?

Well, if you are referring to update in May, I never got hit by it cause most of my shady link sites got nuked last Oct when new penguin (spam link update) got out.

Thing is, mainstream SEO was always ways ahead of most stuff thats going on in adult - things like "duplicate content is a no no" and "omg, you have way too much keyword density on pages" or "omg, you have only pics and no text on your page!!" are, sort of, rule of a thumb.

For example, why did sites running smart thumbs mostly escaped while majority of other sites got nuked?
Easy - if you check each and every thumb on their page, they appear to be "google unique" compared to majority other scripts (not an advocate for DamageX, but still lol, know him for a long time).

So, unique content (including videos/pics) and good descriptions IMHO is a way to go - how you put it in a form at the user end does not really matter - google has no eyes, they can't see your design, gauge how really "good" your site is - metrics is all they can do + check how unique stuff on your pages are. Kinda... self explanatory, seriously and no SEO plugins needed in any place lol.

Mainstream mostly got hit because of spammy links, rarely cause of shitty content on pages. So, rebuild, relink, off we go again. We even got a new term - chun'n'burn sites - you get by from update to update - make site, nuke links, rank, bank, get burned next update - rebuild. Rinse and repeat. Hence mainstream IMHO now is populated by all "camofobia garcinia new cheap jerseys" more than adult... IMHO today its easier to get a new adult site up and running...
