Would be nice if he got close to the max punishment of 20 years. He did try his best to execute the man after all. I doubt he'll get more than a year if he's even convicted at all. Thankfully his shooting skills were just as bad as his judgment.

Two things here. One on private property the cops can't ticket you, as in at malls or other businesses parking lots, etc. So driving around a mall or in a gas station parking lot you don't need to wear a seat belt or stop at mall stop signs, etc. Second our cops rarely pull their guns, in fact its trained as a last resort option. If they run a plate and it comes back the owner is a known gang member, they can pull them, regular traffic stop, they need a good reason. Guns drawn can lead to accidental discharge and here they want to avoid that. The cop in this video was an idiot, he shouldn't be enforcing seat belt laws on private property and had no real reason to pull his gun. He's lucky it didn't end even worse, I.e. the guy was shot dead. Hope he gets some jail time, but something tells me it will be ruled accidental discharge and he may even get his job back.

This is why all police officers should have body cameras. If there wasn't video footage, I'd be willing to bet big money that the outcome would have been quite different for both the officer and the victim.

My advice is to always act as if every officer is ready to shoot you if you sneeze unannounced. I always tell my friends before a road trip to never take your hands off the wheel if pulled over. WAIT for the officer to instruct you before reaching for anything, and if you have to go to a back pocket, purse, or glove compartment, announce it! If the cops tell each other that it's a war zone out there, then you better act like it's a war zone out there too.

Certain malls and shopping centers will have a sign posted at the entrance alerting you to the fact that all traffic laws are in effect.

I doubt anyone agrees with me here but I don't think the cop was trying to kill him. I also don't think he did it on purpose. He asked for license and the dude went back into the car pretty quickly. The cop obviously thought he was pulling a gun and got scared.

Now I'll say this. That doesn't excuse him. He made a mistake that could have killed someone. He should deffinitly be fired. But prison time seems like it's a bit to far.

It was a mistake. Cops deal with a lot if shit. You have to assume people will pull guns on you. Especially in the US.

CNN did a piece on ongoing study into with cop decision making and shootings and I thought at least one of the conclusions was interesting:

however, i am confused on how questioning the actions of some lead to 'hating them all'. maybe you perceive all these threads, groups, et al as 'hate groups'.. but i believe it maybe just the reaction to 'forced blood tests', '12 hour colonoscopy sessions', and police forces having more military equipment in US neighbourhoods than Iraq War Veterns did.

Cops are all over the media now because they are a hot topic. There is far less corruption than there used to be but there is no story there. Same as earthquakes. There is no insurgence of them in the last 10-20, 100 years even but the news is going nuts with reporting every single one now that people are duped into thinking there is an increasing issue with them and that the planet is going to blow up.

Cops should have to obey the law even more then regular civilians since police officers are the ones who uphold the law.

Yea. He was scared. He thought he pulled a gun. When he realized the guy didn't have a gun he seized fire and tried to asses the situation. He called for backup letting them know "shots fired"

If I thought someone was pulling a gun on me I would unload a clip.

I do care that someone was shot. I just feel like most people here that are calling cops "pigs" just hate all cops no matter what the case is and they would vote guilty without even looking at the situation.

No worries. As someone who's been in trouble with the law many times, I have always cooperated with the police and have always had good outcomes. Hell I'm in the process of talking with the police right now for a drunken night I did something stupid. Because of cooperating and being good, they're helping me out even though they don't need to.

But that's alright. All cops are pigs according to people who read bullshit stories on the internet.
